Xiaomi Mi Note Quick Review, Price and Comparison

After numerous leaks and speculations, Xiaomi unveiled its flagship phablet called Mi Note at an event on Thursday. The device boasts of top notch specifications and is still given a reasonable pricing making it a suitable offering for the price conscious consumers. The Mi Note is priced at 2,299 Yuan (approx. Rs 23,000) and it is listed for pre-order in China and the shipping is to start from January 20. While the device’s Indian availability is yet to be announced, here is a quick review on the device.

Camera and Internal Storage

The Xiaomi Mi Note comes with a 13 MP Sony IMX214 sensor main camera with dual tone LED flash to adjust the intensity of flash, F2.0 aperture with 6p lens and optical image stabilization. Also, there is a 4 MP front facing selfie snapper with a large 2 Micron pixel size for enhanced low light performance while clicking self portrait shots and for video conferencing. This makes the smartphone a capable device when it comes imaging and hence, it can compete with the other devices that feature great photography aspects.

Storage wise, the Xiaomi Mi Note comes in two configurations, 16 GB and 64 GB of native storage capacities that cannot be expanded further as there is no micro SD card slot onboard the device.

Processor and Battery

In terms of hardware, the Mi Note is equipped with a 2.5 GHz Snapdragon 801 quad core processor that is backed by Adreno 330 graphics unit and 3 GB of RAM respectively to render crunchy graphics capabilities and swift multitasking functionalities. This chipset would make the Xiaomi smartphone a powerful one.


The battery operating under the hood of the Mi Note is a 3,000 mAh one that should be capable of rendering an acceptable backup to the smartphone under mixed usage.

Display and Features

The display used in the Mi Note is a 5.7 inch Full HD panel that packs in 1920×1080 pixels that is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Furthermore, the device features dynamic contrast pixel adjustment technology that is responsible for the enhancement of contrast in darker regions resulting in brighter images.

Other features of the Mi Note include connectivity aspects such as dual SIM functionality and 4G LTE. Also, the device is based on Android 4.4.3 KitKat with MIUI v5.0. On the design front, the Mi Note features 2.5D curved glass at the front and 3D curved glass at the back that will make it scratch and shatter resistant. The device uses ESS ES9018K2M chip 24 bit studio quality audio decoding and TI OPA1612 amplifier that can render high quality audio output.

Comparison

The Xiaomi Mi Note will be a tough challenger to the other phablets such as Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Oppo Find 7, Google Nexus 6 and others.
