XOLO Q1000S Quick Review, Price And Comparison

The XOLO Q1000S is here. You might know a bit about the device thanks to the teasers XOLO put up a while back, and as far as the device is concerned, it definitely lives up to the hype it managed to create. The phone was advertised as a super sleek device, and we’re not disappointed with what’s given; the Q1000S is just 6.98mm thick, which means it’s one of the thinnest devices in the world.

The device specifications just went live at the official XOLO website a few minutes back, and here we are, quick-reviewing this new device for you.

Camera And Internal Storage

This sleek device comes with superb top-of-the-line specifications, which include a 13MP camera at the rear, and a 5MP one at the front, which is what the best devices in the world currently carry.

The 13MP camera on the front not only features the usual autofocus and LED flash, but comes with the 2nd generation of BSI technology, BSI 2, which will let you take even better pictures in the dark. This unit is capable of full HD recording as well, which is not a surprise.

The 5MP unit on the front does sound impressive, based not only on numbers, but also the fact that this unit too would come equipped with BSI. But unlike the rear 13MP sensor, this one will have BSI and not BSI 2, so you can lower your expectations a bit. Nonetheless, the camera set on the device does sound impressive.

The phone comes with 16GB of ROM, which is something we particularly like. As most of our readers might be aware of, we really feel that manufacturers should stop producing 4GB ROM chips and move to 8GB or 16GB.

Processor And Battery

The phone comes with one of the best low-cost processors, the MT6589T which is the upgraded version of the MT6589 which was seen in many devices including Micromax Canvas HD. This turbo version offers upgrades in the clock frequency of the CPU as well as GPU, and is a substantially better performer.

This impressive device features 1GB of RAM to couple the given processor. 1GB should probably be enough for most users who don’t use too many apps at once, and should be good enough for gaming as well.

The phone continues to impress, this time with an above average battery of 2500mAh. This is particularly impressive given the thickness of the device (6.98mm). Kudos go to the manufacturer who managed to fit this humongous battery in such a thin profile!

You can expect the device to last you over one day of average usage, and with heavy usage the phone will probably need a charge at the end of one day. According to XOLO, the device offers a standby time of 425 hours on 3G, and 327 hours on 2G, and talktime of up to 22.5 hours on 2G and up to 12.5 hours on 3G.

Display And Features

The Q1000S packs a 5 inch 720p HD screen, based on the IPS technology. This means that the phone will have a rather decent pixel density of 294PPI, and thanks to the IPS technology, the viewing angles should be pretty good at the same time.

Other features of the device include Bluetooth v4.0, WiFi, etc. Android v4.2 would come preinstalled on this device, while we hope XOLO release an update to v4.3 in the coming few weeks.

Comparison

Apart from the obvious Micromax Canvas 4, the phone will have a few competitors from Chinese manufacturers such as Zopo and Gionee as well. The devices that can be compared to the Q1000S include Gionee E5, Zopo ZP980, etc. Another contender might be the Turbo version of the Jiayu G4.

Conclusion

As is pretty obvious, we are highly impressed by this new device from XOLO. From what’s offered, we would imagine that the device does have good build quality as well (XOLO devices tend to have a better build than other devices in the same category), but that remains to be seen. However, it has to be said that this device has the potential to capture a huge share in the market, however, the price tag of 18,999 INR might cause people to think twice.

We hope to see the price drop in a few days, which means the phone would be much more affordable. The Q1000S might turn out to be the Micromax Canvas 4 killer!
