When Google announced the Android One program, it was assured that the devices will receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update sometime in future. Today, Google India tweeted that this update will be released to those users in the coming weeks. The tweet reads, “Android One users in India — you’ll be getting the Lollipop update in the next few weeks.”
Of course, this is highly anticipated news for Android One users, but the update is definitely late. Notably, the USP of the Android One smartphones was to receive the software updates alongside Nexus lineup, but Google failed to keep up its promise to update the affordable and stock Android based devices.
Also, the Android One smartphones have suffered a low from the fierce competition in the market wherein the global players such as Xiaomi and Motorola have been doing well. Moreover, there are 4G LTE capable smartphones in the market at similar pricing.
Notably, the Android One devices in India are expected to receive the v5.1 Lollipop update. The update will bring about Material Design with colorful, bold and responsive UI, battery saver feature, better notifications, Android Smart Lock for better security, improved network hands-offs, New Quick Settings, faster, smoother and flexible sharing and over 15 languages support to the Android One smartphones.
