Gionee E3 With HD Display and Quad Core Processor To Launch in Mid May 2013 [Confirmed]

We had earlier reported that the Gionee E3 will be launching soon – we had also done an exclusive coverage of the device at the MWC this year. Now, the launch is confirmed by Gionee at their official Facebook page. The E3 will be a quad core device, featuring a 1.2GHz quad core processor from Mediatek, the Mediatek MT6589. The display of the E3 will be a 4.7 inch HD panel with IPS technology, and a resolution of 1280×720 pixels which is also called HD. According to us, 4.7 inches is a really good size for a phone because it is not too big to not fit in your pocket, and at the same time provides great multimedia and browsing experience.

The device packs in 1GB of RAM and 4GB of storage, which we think is not great as 4GB is not enough for the average user today. Although we must say that 1GB RAM will be sufficient for most users, even advanced users who have many applications open at the same time. The device will also feature a microSD card slot for further expansion of the memory, up to 32GB. When cameras are concerned, the device has an 8 megapixel rear camera for videos and pictures, while a 2 megapixel front camera is present to aid in video calling.

As we have seen with most Mediatek powered devices, even this one will be a dual SIM device. However, the catch here is that out of the two SIM slots, one slot will accept your regular SIM while the other will accept only micro-SIMs. As far as connectivity features are concerned, the device packs Bluetooth, WiFi, 3G, GPRS and USB.

The device will be an amazingly 7.3mm thick, which is even thinner than the iPhone 5. Due to this, users will have to compromise on battery life – as the battery will be only 1800mAh, and you will need to charge the device twice a day, in most cases. The E3 will come with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean as default – while there will be an OTA (Over The Air) update to Android 4.2.1.

Gionee have also included a choice of over 4 rear panels – which one can choose according to his taste. We had seen this feature even in the Gionee Dream D1 earlier. As far as pricing and availability is concerned, the device should be made available in the month of May, and expect the pricing to be around the 17,000 INR mark. This device will have many competitors in the form of Lava Xolo Q800, Celkon A119Q, Karbonn Titanium S5, Zen Ultraphone 701 HD etc.
