Gionee, a brand that is gaining good popularity in India has launched two new things at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The event took place yesterday night, and in the event, Gionee unveiled their new brand identity along with the all new Gionee S8.

The Gionee S8 features a 5.5-inch Full HD Display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The display is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 4, along with a 2.5D Glass. The display on the phone features 3D Touch or Force Touch, that we have seen in the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus till now. This phone is the first in the Android ecosystem to offer that.

Coming to the processor, the Gionee S8 is powered by an Helio P10 processor, which is an octa-core processor. The processor is coupled with 4GB of RAM and offers 64GB onboard storage. However, the company has decided to remove the microSD card slot from the phone.

The battery on the smartphone is a massive 3000mAh battery with fast charging that should be enough to get you through the day. The phone runs Amigo UI, the Gionee custom skin, on top of Android Marshmallow 6.0. On the software front, the Gionee S8 is also the first smartphone to support dual WhatsApp accounts on your smartphone, one for each SIM that you use in the smartphone.

The camera on the device is a 16-megapixel rear shooter with a f/1.8 aperture and 6P Lens. The front camera on the device is an 8-megapixel shooter, assisted with the Gionee’s Virtual Flash using the Image+2.0.

Gionee Logo

Apart from the smartphone, the company also announced their new brand identity, with their new logo that you’ll see on all Gionee devices from now on. The new logo looks classy and modern, just the way it should have been in the first place.

Pricing and Availability

The Gionee S8 is priced at €449 (approximately INR 34,000) for the 64GB model of the smartphone. The phone will be available in March, but it will launch in India later. We do not have the information right now about its launch in India.

Conclusion

The Gionee S8 is the first Android smartphone to be launched that supports 3D Touch. This is something that I was personally hoping Samsung or LG to include in their smartphones. Other than the 3D Touch support, the Dual WhatsApp support is something that is interesting as well. The camera and battery also look promising, at least on paper.
