HMD Global and Zeiss today announced a new partnership that will bring back Zeiss optics to Nokia smartphones. Over Nokia’s history, we have seen several Nokia smartphones feature Carl Zeiss optics, including the Nokia 808 PureView, Lumia 1020 which featured 41MP sensors. This agreement entered into by the two companies today will see Zeiss optics brought back to Nokia smartphones once again.
Zeiss optics have been used on dozens of Nokia smartphones till date. The two companies worked together to bring multi-megapixel cameras to phones. Thanks to this partnership and its inhouse research and development, Nokia was well known for the quality of its cameras. The Nokia 808 PureView and the Lumia 1020 were the pinnacle of this partnership, featuring a 41MP camera sensor and oversampling technology.

On the agreement, Nokia said,

There have been numerous rumours about upcoming Nokia flagships. The Nokia 9 is reported to be the company’s next flagship smartphone, with some reports suggesting that it will feature Zeiss optics. Even though the official announcement about the partnership has been made only now, it is quite possible that HMD Global and Zeiss have been working together on the Nokia 9.
