Nokia 5 Android 8.0 Oreo Beta update starts rolling out, Nokia 6 next

HMD Global led Nokia is keeping their promise and has started rolling out the Android 8.0 Oreo Beta update for the Nokia 5. The company had promised Android Oreo update for the device by the year end and seems like we will get the stable rollout soon.

Nokia had promised to give Android 8.0 Oreo update on the Nokia 3, Nokia 5, and Nokia 6 back in September. Today, Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer, HMD Global, posted the arrival of Nokia 5 Android 8.0 Oreo update for beta testers. The tweet also says that Nokia 6 will also get the update soon.

You can enroll for the Nokia 5 Beta testing if you own a Nokia 5. You can go the Nokia Beta Labs and sign in here to become a beta tester. You may use an active Gmail or Facebook account to sign up.

However, Beta builds are prone to bugs and crashes. Once you enroll in the beta testing, you will receive Android 8.0 Oreo update for your Nokia 5.

For the uninitiated, the Nokia 5 is a budget offering from HMD Global. The phone features 5.2-inch HD (1280 x 720 pixels) 2.5D curved display with Corning Gorilla Glass on top. In terms of cameras, the phone features a 13MP autofocus rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and dual-tone LED Flash. An 8MP camera with f/2.0 aperture and 84-degree field-of-view is also given.

Coming to hardware, this offering from Nokia is packing a Snapdragon 430 Octa-core processor, coupled with Adreno 505 GPU. This combination is complemented by 2GB or 3GB RAM along with 16GB internal storage. A microSD card slot is given for expandable storage up to 128GB.

The device runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box. It is now receiving Android 8.0 Oreo Beta update. It is a dual SIM 4G VoLTE phone with WiFi, GPS, Micro USB port, and a 3.5mm earphone jack as the standard connectivity options.
