Oneplus 5 OxygenOS Update

OnePlus is preparing for a new OTA update of OxygenOS for its latest flagship device, the OnePlus 5. This update will bring a major change that would significantly improve the battery life of the phone.

OnePlus 5 has a 3300 mAh battery that comes with Dash Charge support. The battery can power the phone for more than a day on moderate usage while the Dash Charge can give you a full day’s charge in 30 minutes.

However, according to a new report, the next big OxygenOS update may improve the battery life significantly. The report claims 7 hours of usage will consume only 50% of the battery charge. This will be the seventh update for the OxygenOS since the launch of OnePlus 5 back in June.

OnePlus comes up with updates either to improve some features or to correct bugs in the latest flagship device. The most recent update OxygenOS 4.5.6 was rolled out on July 20, 2017, that fixed the crash when calling emergency services.

And now, its developers are already working on the version 4.6. This one is expected to bring major improvements to the battery and camera of the smartphone. It seems that the key improvement will be the integration of Energy Aware Scheduling.

EAS is an improved power management feature that makes the Linux kernel smarter by allowing it to take advantage of the big.LITTLE architecture like that of the Snapdragon 835 which is powering the OnePlus 5.

To simplify, EAS takes into consideration core size and clock speed and then manages the different cores of the processor. It distributes the tasks to the cores accordingly. So, the system can understand that running the LITTLE cores at full power will be energy efficient. The OnePlus 5 is not the first phone to get EAS update since the Google Pixel has received this update earlier.

OxygenOS is a customized version of the Android operating system developed by Chinese smartphone manufacturer exclusively for their smartphones. OxygenOS 4.6 update is expected in the coming weeks on the OnePlus 5.
