Reliance Jio to announce Jio DTH, JioFiber services soon: report

Reliance Jio has been working on a number of services other than its telecom operations. The latest reports hint that the company might announce its much-awaited Jio DTH and Jio Fiber broadband service in the country very soon.

Reliance Jio, after changing the face of Indian telecom sector by offering ultra-affordable data and voice, will soon enter the DTH (Direct to Home) service. Also, the company is working on another crucial segment, Jio Fiber and has plans for services like IoT Hub.

Jio DTH features

Jio Set-top Box to power Jio DTH is not like any other traditional DTH services, rather it has an ultra-slim design, with next-gen connectivity options on board. It can be connected to any standard HDMI television like Google Chromecast and Amazon Fire Stick and can instantly convert the TV into a smart TV.

Jio is also working to provide quality content along with its Jio DTH service and it will support 4K content. The set-top box can run all the Jio apps including JioTV and JioCinema apart from other media streaming apps like Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, Hotstar, and Voot.

The Jio DTH set-top box is also expected to come connected with JioFiber broadband for Internet TV. It will get an integrated Jio Store along with Google Play Store to download Android apps for your TV. The set-top box will have 16GB of onboard storage to store content and you can also connect an external hard drive of up to 2TB to play your own content on the TV.

The remote that comes with the set-top box looks like the Google Chromecast remote. It has an integrated microphone which might allow voice commands using Google Assistant and now Jio’s own newly launched voice assistant Hello Jio. The Jio set-top box will also come with a joystick for playing games directly on TV and users won’t need to connect an external gaming console.

As of now, the Jio set-top box is in the final stages of testing as suggested by the report and the company will most likely start Jio DTH service along with Jio Fiber this month only.
