Xiaomi has started rolling out a new update to its Redmi Note 4 smartphone. The latest update brings the much-awaited Android Nougat 7.0 version on the phone. The update also includes July month’s Android security patches.

The update is arriving as MIUI version 8.5 (global) and is around 1.3GB in size. The phone will also get the MIUI 9 update soon which is scheduled for August 11. The update for Note 4 is currently rolling out in Greece and it will soon be available in other countries too.

Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 4 in India back in January with Android Marshmallow 6.0 operating system. Now, the Android Nougat update will bring a bunch of new features to the phone.

Some of the notable features of the update include improved Google keyboard, split-screen multitasking, more customizable quick settings, enhanced notifications and recent applications window.

Xiaomi calls it Beta Stable release which is out just before the final update and it is available for select users randomly for testing. The company is also asking for feedback from users who got the update.

Also, since it is an OTA (over-the-air) update, it will take some time before it comes to all devices. Users can also manually check for the update by going to phone’s settings and then look for Software Update in the About Phone section.

To recall the specifications, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 comes with a 5.5 inch full HD (1920 x 1080) 2.5D curved glass display. It features a fingerprint scanner at the back. The phone currently runs on MIUI 8 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

The phone is powered by an octa core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor clocked at 2.0 GHz and coupled with Adreno 506 GPU. It comes in three memory and storage variants- 2GB/32GB, 3GB/32GB, and 4GB/64GB.

The dual SIM smartphone has a 4,100 mAh battery. The smartphone sports a 13 MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, dual tone LED flash and PDAF.  On the front, it has a 5-megapixel front camera.

Since its launch, Redmi Note 4 is one of the best-selling smartphones in India. The phone is made available only in flash sales through online stores. However, currently, Flipkart is hosting the open sale of Redmi Note 4 in its Big Freedom Sale.  The pricing of the phone starts from Rs. 9,999 for the 2GB/32GB variant.
