Xiaomi sold over 1,50,000 Redmi Y1, Redmi Y1 Lite in 3 minutes

Xiaomi has announced that it has sold more than 1.5 lakh units of the Xiaomi Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite within three minutes of Flash sale. While it is a great response for the company, it looks like Xiaomi’s aggressive expansion is paying off.

Earlier this month, Xiaomi introduced its first selfie-centric smartphones, the Xiaomi Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite. With a 5.5-inch display, Snapdragon 435 processor, up to 4GB RAM and up to 64GB storage, the Redmi Y1 comes with 13MP and 16MP cameras. As the flash sale went live on Amazon, Xiaomi claims that 1.5 lakh units were sold under 3 minutes.

Both the Xiaomi Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite share the same camera, display, and battery setup. The major difference can be seen in terms of hardware. While the Xiaomi Redmi Y1 offers a Snapdragon 435 processor, the Redmi Y1 Lite comes with Snapdragon 425 processor. The Redmi Y1 comes in two variants i.e. 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB while the Redmi Y1 Lite offers 2GB RAM with 16GB storage.

The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite come with a plastic build. Both phones sport a 5.5-inch IPS-LCD display with HD (1280 x 720p) display with Gorilla Glass. Cameras on both the phones are also same. The Redmi Y1 and Y1 Lite come with a 16MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture and selfie flash. A 13MP rear camera is also there with f/2.2 aperture.


In terms of software, both the phones come run Android 7.1.1 Nougat with MIUI on top. While Android updates may be slow with Xiaomi, the consistent MIUI updates keep bringing new features on board.

Both the Xiaomi Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite comes with a 3,080 mAh battery. They are Dual SIM 4G VoLTE smartphones with a dedicated microSD card slot. Standard connectivity options include  WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, Micro USB port, 3.5mm earphone jack, and an infrared blaster.

Pricing and Availability

The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 will be available in two variants. The 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage are priced at Rs. 8,999 and the 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage variant have been priced at Rs. 10,999. The Redmi Y1 Lite is priced at Rs. 6,999. Both phones are selling at flash sales as Amazon Exclusives.
