Why Wearable Devices Should be Tagged with Smartphones Permanently

Wearable devices are the new opportunity centre for technology enthusiasts and the main reason behind this is the kind of versatile features which comes along these devices. Users have already started using smartwatches and smartbands to meet their requirement of using watches a mini remote control of smartphones and tracking fitness parameters. Many Smartphone OEMs like Apple, Samsung, LG, Asus and other have already stepped into this industry and are planning to improve their product through out the subsequent years.

Why Wearable should be integrated with Smartphones

Most major OEMs have launched their Wearable devices and though it might be a trend among geeks to own one, many would agree this isn’t a revolutionary change to how you use your smartphones.

With time as more of our living space is integrated with technology (Smart LED bulbs, Smart TVs, Smart curtains), wearables will give more meaning to our lives as it won’t be practical to draw your smartphone out each time. Meanwhile, people expect low cost on wearables and to make them more meaningful, OEMs should bundle them with smartphones for some of the following reasons.

Packing them together increases familiarity for the consumers

These days smartphones are the most important gadget of our live because we tend to save every kind of information about ourselves on our smartphones which indirectly reveals that how close are integrated with our smartphones these days. Now, if we take a look at the generic properties of wearable device then we will realize that they also inherit the same property of closeness because we wear them on our body. So, why not to pack both of them under a single theme. Wont it be great if we see something by Samsung Galaxy Note 4 having a small band along any of its edges which can be taken and worn on our wrists to check the health or fitness parameters of our body, rather than Samsung Launching a whole new product.

This will help Samsung (or any other smartphone OEM) to reach out to a new segments of consumers, will increase the penetration rate and it will obviously increase the visibility of the wearable product in the market.

Smartphones are already low on battery, why to make this situation worse

Android smartphones or iPhone users, everybody is fed up with low the backup provided by the battery of their smartphones. With the increasing resolution of screen, along with the display size and power draining GPUs. Hence, you can see that there are already so many components drawing a good amount of battery strength and if you connect your wearable device using Bluetooth connectivity then it is obvious that you are further deteriorating the battery life of your smartphone.

One of the most obvious connectivity feature which is switched ON all the time on a smartphone is the 2G or 3G cellular data connection. So, wearable device can actually connect to our smartphone using those connection, however it might come out as an expensive option because everybody wants to minimize their data usage bills. Hence, another option could be to connect your smartphone and wearable device over the same WiFi network.

Now this is highly feasible if both the devices are covered under a single network like your office or home but if you are out travelling somewhere then wearable device can create its own virtual private Wireless Network to which you smartphone can stay connected. Hence, you wont have to switch ON Bluetooth at all and your wearable device will stay connected with your smartphone using the common WiFi Network.

Such measures will substantially help to educe the battery drained while maintaining the connectivity with the smartphone.

Higher the Integration with Smartphone, Smaller will be the size of a wearable device

Size and design are something which is really important for a wearable device because these devices will probably land up on your body, hence they need to be really precise. If the integration between smartphone and wearable is strong then size of wearable device can be decreased by increasing the dependency of its operation over smartphone. Smartphones can act as main data center (or master node) for a wearable device, which will only act a peripheral for a smartphone and will not operate independently at all.

Usually, a wearable device captures the information, processes it and then show its output to use. However, with heavy integration processing and output stages will be taken care by your smartphone and wearable device will be only the information capturing media. This will help the Wearable OEMs to reduce the price of their products by a huge margin and making it more approachable for the consumers.

Conclusion

In this year 2015, smartphone makers should focus towards integrating the smartphones with wearable device, because undoubtedly, wearable devices and Internet of Things are the upcoming future consumer technology. The advantages of integration are drastic and the process is itself quite innovative, it will be great to see that who will be the first smartphone OEM to act along these lines.
