The XOLO Play T1000 was one device which exceeded expectations for many. This phone from domestic manufacturer XOLO comes powered with an nVidia Tegra 3 processor which has 4 cores, each of which is clocked at a frequency of 1.5 GHz. There’s also 1GB of RAM for efficient multitasking, paired with 4GB of ROM for storage.
We think this device has the potential to be a game changer in the domestic industry because it’s the first Indian device which packs an nVidia Tegra 3 processor. Read ahead, as we review the device for you based on the specs released!
Camera And Internal Storage
This exciting device from XOLO packs an 8MP rear camera which is capable of recording video in full HD, i.e., 1080p video. The camera is also supported by LED flash and BSI technology which will let users take better pictures in conditions where there is limited light. Apart from the hardware enhancements, the camera is assisted by a few other features seen in quite a few smartphones, like geo-tagging, face-detection, etc.
The front camera on the device is a 2MP unit, which should fare well enough for your video calls and occasional self-portraits, depending on your usage.
The phone comes with only 4GB of ROM. This is probably the only gripe which can be found on this device, but given the processor, we would gladly overlook this con of the device. There is provision for a microSD card, which can be a maximum of 32GB in size.
Processor And Battery
If we didn’t make our intentions clear enough, this is one of the best devices in the range thanks to the processor it features. The phone features the same Tegra 3 processor which we saw in the HTC One X last year, a device which cost upwards of 30,000 INR. The Tegra 3 processor from nVidia is a tried and tested unit, and comes with 4 cores clocked at 1.5 GHz each which are bound to make the usage of the phone a pleasurable experience. The GPU on the chipset has 12 cores, and being clocked at 416 MHz, even the GPU promises great performance.
The phone features a 2000mAh battery which is slightly below average for today’s smartphones, but again, we expect the CPU to be efficient in power management, since it comes with an extra 5th core for saving power.
Display And Features
The XOLO Play T1000 sports a 4.7 inch touchscreen, which for us is probably the best screen size for a smartphone. Your thumb will have not much of a problem reaching the top of the screen, nor will the screen be too small for multimedia/gaming. The display on the device features a resolution of 1280×720 pixels, which in turn churns out a pixel density of 312ppi, which we think is a (very) little short of today’s average.
The device has more pros than cons, so this can pretty much be overlooked unless you’re buying a phone specifically for multimedia. The OS on the phone will be Android v4.1.1.
Comparison
The device is expected to compete with a range of devices from domestic manufacturers. Manufacturers have started producing devices with the 1.5 GHz Mediatek MT6589 processor, which are expected to be priced in the same range. However, prospective buyers can expect the Tegra 3 to be a better performer than any of the current Mediatek phones.
Specifically, the device will be competing against the recently released Micromax Canvas 4, Gionee Elife E5, even the Google Nexus 4, among others.

Conclusion
This is a super exciting release from an upcoming brand in India. The XOLO Play T1000 sounds like a device well worth the money, and might prove to be a nightmare to other domestic manufacturers which haven’t really moved on from Mediatek processors. The phone is expected to be available in the local market in the coming month or so.
The phone can be pre-ordered from Flipkart at the moment (they’re also giving a free 16GB microSD card), and deliveries will start July 3rd.
