Zync Cloud Z401 Quick Review, Price And Comparison

When we talk of domestic manufacturers, the names that come up almost instantaneously are Micromax, Karbonn, Lava, XOLO, etc. One name which we usually miss is Zync, an upcoming domestic smartphone and tablet maker. With the launch of their latest device, the Zync Cloud Z401, they would hope the equation changes a bit in their favour.

Zync-Cloud-Z401

The Cloud Z401 is an entry level device. It comes with a modest screen measuring 4 inches, and has a single core processor to power the device. Let us go ahead and talk about other specifications of this new device.

Camera And Internal Storage

The phone, as we mentioned earlier, takes a very modest approach when it comes to specifications. So much so, that you might almost feel it is overpriced, at 4499 INR.

The phone has a 2MP rear shooter, which is rather disappointing, even on an entry-level device. Cameras of 3.2-5MP are expected by users at the least in this day. On the front, the phone carries a VGA unit, about which we can’t really complain. It is actually surprising that Zync did include a front shooter on the front.

The phone comes with a virtually non-existent internal storage of 128MB which can be further expanded with a microSD card. The maximum capacity of microSD cards that can work with this device is 32GB, which we feel will be inevitable thanks to the low capacity offered by Zync.

Processor And Battery

This device from Zync comes with a single core 1GHz processor, which we really think is a thing of the past now. Given the minimal difference in costs of single and dual core chipsets, we really think Zync should have included a dual core processor instead. Let alone games, it will be difficult to execute even simple apps like Evernote on the device.

The device disappoints even on the RAM front. It comes with just 256MB of RAM. We’re living in an age where most smartphone users have about 2-3 applications running simultaneously, which is something 256MB of RAM simply won’t be able to handle. A major part of this would also be taken up by the Android OS, so the user available RAM will be much lower than 256MB.

The device comes with a 1300mAh battery unit, which will find it tough to take most users through one day.

Display And Features

As mentioned earlier, the phone comes with a 4 inch touch screen with a WVGA resolution of 800×480 pixels. This is something we see on most entry level smartphones today, so it is about apt. The pixel density comes out to be around 233ppi which is definitely not bad for a device costing under 5k INR.

Among other features, the device has support for dual SIM, both of which can be used simultaneously. The phone will come with only Android v2.3 Gingerbread, which is something which disappoints. Given the specifications of the phone, we won’t be surprised if the device never gets an update to Android v4.0+.

Comparison

Most manufacturers have moved to producing devices with equal to or more than 512MB RAM, dual core processor, qHD screens, etc. However, there still exists a market for entry level phones like the Zync Z401. Buyers can be anyone, from people tight on budget to students and housewives.

Some phones comparable to the Zync Cloud Z401 are as follows: the recently launched Smart NaMo Saffrom A209, Celkon Campus A63, Karbonn A11+, etc.

Conclusion

The device comes across as a standard entry-level device, and like most others in it’s league, has nothing exceptional on offer. As we mentioned before, the phone isn’t meant for a large part of today’s youth who want to play the latest games and be able to watch movies on their phone. The device has it’s own section of the audience which might include people who are tight on budget, students looking for their first smartphone, and probably even senior citizens of the country who want a low cost and effective device.
