Another phone from Xolo got listed on online retail site Flipkart today with a price tag of Rs.11,999. Xolo Q700 (Full Review) is still considered one of the best phone priced under 10,000. Thus the expectations would definitely be more from the upgraded version. Is Xolo trying to cash in on the success of its Q700 smartphone or will Xolo Q700i live up to the expectation? Let’s take a closer look at the specifications of this smartphone to get an idea of this new offering from Xolo.
Camera and Internal Storage
The Camera feature is the only conspicuous upgrade in Xolo Q700i as compared to predecessor Xolo Q700. This phone comes with an 8 MP Autofocus camera with BSI sensor and LED flash support. Xolo q700 has a camera with 5MP BSI sensor. This camera is now similar to Xolo Q800 which is available at 9,850 INR. The camera is capable of recording 720p HD video. Front camera, which is seldom used for Video calling, has been upgraded from VGA to 2 MP.
The Internal Storage remains same at 4 GB and is something we see in all phones in this price segment and also below this price segment. The storage can be extended to 32 GB using microSD card.
Processor and Battery
The Processor is 1.2 GHz Quad core with PowerVR SGX544 GPU. XOLO Q700 had MT6589W-M processor and Xolo Q800 had MT6589M processor. Both of these processors are based on Cortex A7 architecture similar to MT6589 and MT6589T. To justify the price tag over Q700 and Q800 we expect this processor to be MT6589, although it is not clearly specified as of yet. The camera is capable of only 720p HD recording and this is the maximum that can be achieved from chipsets up to MT6589M.
The RAM capacity backing up this processor remains same at 1 GB which is pretty standard in this price range. The Battery capacity is also same at 2400 mAh. In our experience with XOLO Q700 this battery lasted one day with moderate usage. We can expect similar backup with Q700i also.
Display and Features
This phone has 4.5 Inch IPS LCD, 5 point Multi touch OGS Display with qHD 960 x540 pixel resolution amounting to 245 pixels per inches which is fine clarity display. The IPS display will ensure good viewing angles and the OGS (One Glass Solution) Technology will ensure better outdoor visibility and enhanced touch screen experience.
The Phone supports Dual SIM Dual Standby functionality and runs on Android 4.2 Jelly bean operating system.
Looks and Connectivity
The body dimensions (135.8 x 67.5 x10.2 mm) and weight (153 grams) remain similar to Q700. Thanks to the 4.5 Inch display size, this device will be comfortable to hold and for single handed operation. Look and feel of the device is quite conventional.
Connectivity features include 3G, Wi-Fi , Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP, aGPS and 3.5mm audio jack
Comparison
This device will compete with Xolo’s own Xolo Q800 and other budget quad core devices available in the same price bracket like Panasonic T11, iBall Andi 5H Quadro, Intex Aqua i5 and Lenovo P770. Micromax Canvas HD with bigger and better display is also available at a similar price after receiving recent price cuts.

Conclusion
This new phone from Xolo doesn’t justify the increase in price tag over Xolo Q800 and Xolo Q700 Quite reasonably. The only conspicuous change is the increase in the MP count which is at par with Xolo Q800 and a probable upgrade in processor. If you don’t engage in extensive gaming then go for Xolo Q800. Canvas HD which is now available for around 12,000 INR after receiving a price cut is also a good option.
