Lava recently launched Lava Iris 503, an upgraded version of its previous popular smartphone Lava Iris 502 and has priced it at Rs. 8,990. The price does seem a little high in this competitive budget Android phone market which now stands overcrowded. Let’s take a look at what this phone is offering to carve a niche for itself at this price range.
Camera and Internal Storage
This phone comes with a 5 MP camera at the back supported by LED flash for low light conditions. The camera sensor employed is BSI or back side illuminated sensor which will provide with better low light performance.
An 8 MP camera at this price range would have been better. Xolo Q800 in the same price bracket will offer you a better 8 MP camera along with better processor. A 1.3 MP camera is also present at the front for video calling.
The internal storage is same 4 GB, out of which 2.54 GB will be available at the users end. The internal memory can be further extended to 32 GB using MicroSD card support.
Processor and Battery
This phone is powered by a 1.2 GHz dual core processor whose make has not yet been specified. In the same price range you can get phones like Xolo Q700 and Xolo Q800 which will have a better quad core processor and would be a better option to you if you are more into gaming. The processor is backed by 512 MB RAM which is again half of what quad core options are offering.
The battery capacity is 2000 mAh which is pretty good. This will over you a 2G talk time of 7 hours which is average. We expect this to carry you through the day with moderate usage.
Display and Features
The 5 inch IPS display is the USP of this device. The most popular display size of 5 Inch has 960 X 540 pixels (qHD) spread across it which gives it an above average pixel density of 220 ppi. The display is very usable and will provide you with good multimedia experience. Since it’s an IPS display, you can expect wide viewing angles.
The phone supports Dual SIM functionality and runs on Android 4.2 operating system which will provide you with good android experience. There is no proximity sensor at the front which is disappointing and will restrict you from using various gesture Apps from Playstore (Which are not very effective most of the times)
Looks and Connectivity
The phone has a plastic body with metallic coloring on the side rimmed edges. The loud speaker is present at the back and the Lava branding at the back below the camera with color contrast makes the back panel look different.
Connectivity features include 3G, GPRS, EDGE, WiFi and Bluetooth.
Comparison
This phone will mainly compete with Micromax Canvas A76 which comes with similar chipset specifications and 5 inch FWVGA display. Other competitors include Micromax Canvas A74 and Xolo A600. Xolo Q700 and Xolo Q800 with quad core processor and 1 GB RAM at the same price range will offer you with better processing power.
