iPhone 5c was not the cheap plastic iPhone which many expected it to be but Apple is reportedly looking forward to re-launch iPhone 4 8 GB in India for Rs. 15,000 as an initiative to boost sales.
The iPhone 4 was discontinued last year with the launch of iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c and the re-launch doesn’t mean that Apple will start reproduction of iPhone 4, it simply means it will drain the global excess stock in Indian market at a discounted price.
According to the sources at Economic Times, the reintroduction of iPhone 4 will occur sometime next week and the subsidy will be provided via buy back schemes and EMI options. Last time when the phone received a price-cut, it was selling for Rs. 21, 500.
Apple iPhone 4 was a value for money apple branded product for those with a budget in the vicinity of 20,000 INR and Apple expects to win back the lost market share by introducing the iPhone 4 in 15,000 to 20,000 INR range.
The iPhone 4 8 GB is old technology now. Of course Apple’s iOS has proven to be more resource efficient operating system and you can’t compare it to an Android Spec sheet to truly judge the potential, but nevertheless, Three year old iPhone 4 is now obsolete. Moreover it lags and runs out of battery a lot sooner after the iOS 7 update.
The imaging hardware (5 MP rear camera/ 0.3 MP front camera) and battery backup doesn’t compare to what Android is offering at the respective price range. With the arrival of phones like Moto G in the same price range, iPhone 4 will only stand based on the brand value.
