Micromax Canvas Tube A118R with 5.5-inch Screen Nearing Launch

Looks like Micromax is taking the Russian market more seriously than we initially expected. The company recently released a host of low cost smartphones earlier this week, before launching the 2GHz octa-core Micromax Canvas Knight A350 in Russia earlier today. This time round, we have news of a 5.5-inch device that’s being worked upon.

We’re talking about the Micromax Canvas Tube A118R which is expected to have a Russia release in the coming few weeks. The phone is teased as ‘Your palm theatre’, referring to the large 5.5-inch screen. No word on pricing and/or availability yet, but thanks to a leaked slide we have info on the key specifications of this smartphone.

Folks at AndroidOS spotted this leaked slide first, which gives us an idea about the specifications. This includes a 1.2GHz quad-core processor (nothing new here, we assume it will be the MT6589), an 8MP rear camera, a 2MP front shooter, 3G connectivity, and a 2300mAh battery. To top it all, a 5.5-inch IPS screen with unspecified resolution. To keep interest in this mystery, Micromax haven’t yet outed details on RAM and internal storage.

As can be seen in the picture, the phone does have quite a distinctive design from its counterparts. Thanks to the letter ‘R’ in the model name, we’re certain that the device will be launched not only in India, but Russia as well. You can expect to see more of this device in the coming weeks.
