Gionee M2 gets updated to Android KitKat, Support for 3 Indian Languages Added

Gionee M2 Android Kitkat update has arrived. The update has arrived a little bit later than promised but will make up for it with the addition of a new homescreen layout, support for 3 regional languages, touchpal and more.

However, the update won’t be pushed over-the-Air. You will have to get it flashed at the nearest service center, or flash it yourself following the instructions at Gionee forum page.

Here is what the official change log details:

  • Android upgrade to KitKat
  • New Desktop layout
  • Added Touchpal input method for faster and more efficient typing experience
  • Updated kingsoft office for more efficient work and study related operations
  • Removed V9 search
  • Added 3 Local Indian Languages – Hindi, Gujarati and Punjabi

Apart from these changes, users who have installed the update are reporting improved camera quality, Better flash performance, some enhancements in browser, pop up messages, etc. The update is expected to deplete storage by around 300 MB.


The update might also improve overall performance on your Gionee M2, but it is advised to wait for some more user reviews before you proceed. In case you have updated and wish to go back to jelly bean, you can get it re-flashed at Gionee service centers.
