Since the last week, Xolo has been teasing a first of its kind launch event for today and as claimed the vendor unveiled couple of new smartphones in the Omega lineup. These new devices are an evidence for the firm’s thirst for innovation as they boast of curved edges and rounded design. Also, the handsets that were launched via Twitter are based on the firm’s HIVE UI along with Android 4.4 KitKat. Let us take a quick review of the larger variant, Xolo Omega 5.5 below.
Camera and Internal Storage
The Xolo Opus HD flaunts a 13 MP rear sensor at its back with LED flash, Exmor RS sensor, 5P lens and support for FHD 1080p video recording. While we can expect this camera to be capable enough of producing quality snaps and videos, there is a 2 MP front facing selfie camera onboard that will help in making video conferencing and clicking self portrait shots.
The internal storage bundled in the Xolo offering is 8 GB that is similar to what most of the other devices in this price bracket arrive with. This storage capacity can be expanded further by means of an expansion card slot.
Processor and Battery
The Omega 5.5 is equipped with a 1.4 GHz octa core MediaTek MT6592M pocessor coupled with Mali 450 GPU graphics engine and 1 GB of RAM. We have already seen this processor in several affordable octa core handsets and we know that it can perform well along with good levels of graphic handling and multi-tasking capabilities.
The battery capacity of the Xolo phone is 2,600 mAh and thought the vendor has not revealed the exact hours of backup that will be rendered, we expect it to last for decent hours.
Display and Features
The Xolo Omega 5.5 flaunts a 5.5 inch HD IPS display that has a screen resolution of 1280×720 pixels. The IPS panel should suffice in rendering decent viewing angles and user experience for the pricing of the device. There are several smartphones with similar displays in the smartphone making this phone pretty standard.
Xolo has launched the device with Android 4.4 KitKat out of its box, but it has assured that the device will receive the v5.0 Lollipop soon. Also, the HIVE UI will bring several features to the table including the themes support, revamped applications and more. The connectivity aspects of the phone include 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and dual SIM functionality. There is support for Yamaha amplifier alongside DTS support for enhanced audio output. In addition, the Omega 5.5 comes with free 1 GB of data for Vodafone subscribers along with unlimited music content on Vodafone Music for two months.
Comparison
The Xolo Omega 5.5 would declare a battle with the Xiaomi Redmi Note, Micromax Canvas Gold A300, Panasonic P81 and others.
