Asus Zenfone C Quick Review, Price and Comparison

After witnessing a huge success with the launch of its Zenfone lineup of smartphones in the last year, Asus has come up with an entry level offering called Zenfone C. The device has been launched in the Indian market for a pricing of Rs 5,999. Like the other handsets in the lineup, this one will also be exclusively available from Flipkart. Here is a quick review on the smartphone to know about its hardware and capabilities.

Camera and Internal Storage

Asus Zenfone C is pretty standard in this segment with a 5 MP main camera with PixelMaster technology, auto focus, LED flash and f2.0 aperture. Up front, the handset boasts of a VGA front facer that can capture basic selfies and video conferencing. Interestingly, the PixelMaster technology is claimed to be a Low Light Mode that lets the sensor to capture up to 400 percent more light to render brighter snaps even in low light environments without the flash.

There is 8 GB of internal storage capacity that can be further enhanced by another 64 GB with the help of a micro SD card. These storage aspects are on par with those of the other handsets in the same price bracket.

Processor and Battery

The Zenfone C is powered by a 1.2 GHz dual core Intel Atom Z2520 processor with Hyper Threading technology for faster execution of instructions. With this feature, the dual core processor can render better efficiency by processing more 2 instructions per cycle. The processor is teamed up with 1 GB of RAM for moderate multitasking as well.

A 2,100 mAh battery energizes the Asus Zenfone C and it is rated to pump in up to a whopping 29.8 hours of talk time and up to 260 hours of standby time respectively on 3G networks. This battery backup appears to be a rarely seen aspect in the smartphones belonging to this segment.

Display and Features

The Zenfone C is fitted with a 4.5 inch display with a FWVGA resolution of 480×854 pixels. This display is pretty standard for an entry level smartphone and it should be capable of rendering basic functionality that is expected from a phone of this pricing.

The handset runs on Android 4.4 KitKat operating system skinned with Zen UI, but there is no word regarding the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Zenfone C. Connectivity wise, the handset supports dual SIM functionality that comes packed with other aspects such as 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and micro USB. Also, there is Asus SonicMaster technology for an enhanced audio output.

Comparison

The Asus Zenfone C will be facing a tough challenge from the best sellers in the entry level segment such as Xiaomi Redmi 1S, Moto E, Huawei Honor Holly, Lenovo A6000 and others.

The Asus Zenfone C is positioned between the Zenfone 4 and Zenfone 5 smartphones that were launched by the firm in the last year. The handset is specced appropriately for its pricing, but there are better devices as mentioned above for slightly higher pricing. However, the Zenfone C might lure in the first time smartphone buyers with its reasonable pricing and decent aspects.
