Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 Could Be Powered By Snapdragon 660, Launching Soon

After introducing the Redmi Note 4 and Note 4X in India, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer is gearing up for its next launch. According to rumors, Xiaomi is working on a new smartphone which might be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 chipset. The upcoming chipset is the successor to the mid-range octa-core Snapdragon 652 SoC.

For now, there is not much information released about the upcoming phone but speculations suggest that it could be the Redmi Pro 2. Redmi Pro 2 was recently spotted online featuring Snapdragon 660 processor. The particular chipset could be for a Mi smartphone as well, which might be similar to the Xiaomi Mi Max. According to the report posted on Weibo, the Snapdragon 660 processor is accompanied with Samsung’s 14nnm LLP process technology.

The Snapdragon 660 will most likely feature custom Kyro cores like Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 chipset. According to rumors, it might be coupled with an eight-core combination of four Cortex A73 CPUs clocked at 2.2GHz. The other might four Cortex A53 CPUs clocked at 1.9GHz. The GPU is expected to be Adreno 512 which will come with support for UFS 2.1 storage and have two LPDDR4 RAMs clocked at 1866MHz. It is also suggested that the mass production of the Snapdragon 660 will commence by the second quarter of 2017.

The initial usage will be done by Oppo and Vivo smartphones along with Xiaomi. Considering the processors, Xiaomi has recently released its in-house processor Pinecone, with its own Weibo page. Xiaomi will soon introduce the Pinecone 1 and Pinecone 2. The said processors might power the Mi 5c.

The Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 is expected to feature a screen, slightly larger than 5.5-inch with thin side bezels and a textured rear panel. For fueling the phone, a 4,500 mAh battery might be present. The Redmi Pro 2 is expected to be launched in two variants – the lower variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB inbuilt storage and the higher version with 6GB RAM and 128GB onboard storage.

For imaging, the smartphone might feature a Sony IMX362 ½.55’ sensor with 1.4µm pixel. The camera will be also powered with features like a Dual Pixel autofocus capability. The pricing is expected to start at Rs 15,700 for the base model while the higher variant might hold a sticker price of Rs 17,700.
