BSNL Gears Up To Launch 1000 Mbps FTTH Broadband Services

BSNL yesterday announced the launch of Next Generation Optical Transport network, taking the network capacity from 10G to 100G. This will allow BSNL to provide up to 1,000 Mbps broadband speed over Fiber Network. BSNL currently provides up to 100 Mbps broadband speed.

By doing so, BSNL has increased their maximum broadband speed by 10 times. So far, BSNL was providing up to 24 Mbps over Fixed line broadband and 100 Mbps over FTTH connections.

BSNL FTTH

BSNL has told that The Next Generation Optical Transport Network (NG-OTN) will be implemented in 3 phases at an estimated cost of Rs. 330 Crores. The plan also implements technology that will help BSNL in quick repair and restoration of telephone services.

Recent ventures by BSNL

Recently, BSNL also launched WiFi hotspots in Hyderabad, where you can use 100MB data for free and then recharge with vouchers priced between Rs. 10 to Rs. 599. They also have lucrative plans like 2GB data per day at Rs. 666 for 2 months.

BSNL has also proceeded to partner with Adpay and started working on Aerovoyce, India’s first MVNO. We can expect BSNL’s new Broadband and FTTH plans to also be powered by Aerovoyce.

Conclusion

State-Run BSNL is working hard on competing with private public players. With the introduction of various plans and now Hotspots and enhanced broadband capabilities, BSNL could give competition to other service providers.

Telecom Minister, Manoj Sinha said during the launch, “BSNL has successfully implemented a major project of NG-OTH technology in 44 cities covering state capitals and major cities. Under this project, total 100 major cities including state capitals shall be covered in phased manner during current financial year”.

BSNL Chairman and MD, Anupam Shrivastava said “This project aimed to enhance existing 10G capacity to 100G capacity of Optical Fibre infrastructure of BSNL. This means now in back-end we will have 10 times more capacity and will be launching new plans with 10 times more speed. This enhanced capacity will help retail customer base of BSNL in landline, FTTH and mobile services,”
