Huawei’s smartphone brand Honor has announced the timeline for the Honor 7X Android Oreo update. Honor USA has shared that the stable Android Oreo update with EMUI 8.0 will roll out for the Honor 7X from April 30th in the U.S. Honor India, on the other hand, says that the update will roll out for Indian users soon without giving an exact date.

Honor had already confirmed the Android Oreo update for several devices including the Honor 7X recently. The company even started beta testing the Oreo update for the phone. Now, this stable update with EMUI 8.0 will bring several new features including a new floating navigation dock, photo gallery recycle bin as well as the face unlock, which was already rolled out in India through an OTA update last month.

Quick shortcut menus, new navigation

With the update, users can quickly access specific features in an app by holding the app icon and choosing the app shortcut. Users can even drag any feature out of the pop-up menu to create a new shortcut on the home screen. Moreover, with the newly added home screen shortcut, the floating navigation dock lets users navigate their device from anywhere on the screen.

Face Unlock

Through the front camera, it scans a recognized user’s face to unlock instantly. The feature doesn’t let you unlock with closed eyes and allows only device owners to see lock screen notification details for more security. This feature was already available in India though.

Updated Setting menu and Phone Manager

The update also brings redesigned Settings menu which is now clearer and more intuitive. Also, the updated Phone Manager now automatically optimizes the system based on usage, keeping the smartphone at peak performance.

Others

Other features include a Photo gallery recycle bin which allows users restore photos and videos if they accidentally delete them. It retains deleted photos and videos for 30 days. Further, Contacts and Email in EMUI 8.0 let users sync the details of their LinkedIn contacts, making it easier to manage contacts across platforms. Lastly, the smartphone can now be able to connect two Bluetooth devices at the same time.
