Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro Android 8.1 Oreo Based MIUI 9.5.6 Update now rolling out in India

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro Android 8.1 Oreo update which is based on MIUI 9.5 is now being rolled out in India. The Redmi Note 5 Pro users who are currently on MIUI version 9.2.7, are now reportedly receiving a notification for the latest update to the MIUI 9.5 Global ROM which comes with Android 8.1 Oreo as well.

Chinese handset maker had launched the Redmi Note 5 Pro in India in February this year. The highlights of the phone are the 5.99-inch 18:9 display, a dual-camera setup, as well as the large 4,000mAh battery. The handset arrived with MIUI 9 based on Android Nougat. But now, as announced by Xiaomi on its forum, MIUI 9.5 Global ROM version 9.5.6.0.OEIMIFA is now rolling out to Redmi Note 5 Pro which brings Android Oreo.

Xiaomi has already announced that Redmi Note 5 Pro in India will support Google’s Project Treble and it will get faster software updates. Now, a stable Global ROM MIUI 9.5 software update with some bug fixes, quick search options, and more are expected in the Redmi Note 5 Pro. Notably, the update will bring Android Oreo 8.1 with it.

Xiaomi has not yet published an official changelog on Mi forums. As per reports, the update is based on Android 8.1 Oreo and users have the option to download it or get the actual ROM files directly with the Recovery ROM and the Fastboot ROM. Users can then flash & setup MIUI 9 on their Redmi Note 5 Pro.


Those users who have not received a notification about the update can go to Settings > About phone > System update > Check for updates. Also, since this is an OTA update; hence it might take a while before it comes on all Redmi Note 5 Pro smartphones.

To recall some of the specs, the Redmi Note 5 Pro sports a 5.99-inch full-HD (1080 x 2160 pixels) display and is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 636 SoC, coupled with either 4GB or 6GB of RAM. It sports a dual rear camera setup, with a 12MP primary sensor and a 5MP secondary sensor. Up front, it has a 20MP sensor with soft LED flash. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro is powered by a 4,000mAh battery.
