Amazon India today announced that its smart assistant Alexa will now support interactions in Hindi or Hinglish. This will let Indian users talk to Alexa to ask for music, weather, or sports updates and much more in Hindi or Hinglish. The new Hindi and Hinglish experience are available on all Echo smart speakers.
With this update, Amazon Alexa can now understand Indian customers in Hindi or Hinglish, in several contexts, and regional dialects & accents. So they can ask Alexa for diverse Hindi content such as Hindi jokes, shayaris, Kabir ke dohe, Panchatantra stories, Bollywood dialogues, and even spellings of words in Hindi.
How to use this feature?
To get started with Hindi and Hinglish, you can just ask “Alexa, help me set up Hindi”. Also, customers with Echo devices can change their device language to Hindi via the language options inside the settings on the Alexa App. Echo Show device users can access the settings to change the language by swiping down the home screen.
Moreover, customers will soon be able to speak in Hindi and English without changing the language settings. For example, if you ask for the weather in Hindi, Alexa will reply in Hindi, and when you ask something in English, Alexa will understand and respond in English.
Also, apart from Echo devices, Alexa Hindi support will also be available on a range of smart speakers by Bose. Also, brands like Motorola, MyBox, Boat, Portronics, Sony, iBall, and Dish will also launch and update their existing Alexa supported devices to understand Hindi soon.
