OnePlus 8 Initial Impressions: Is it still a flagship killer?

OnePlus has released its eighth iteration in the series as OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro with a subtle difference to the devices. Both OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro are flagship smartphones when comes to the specifications and even the design of the smartphone. The smartphone will be the new benchmark for the “Flagship Killers” from other brands worldwide.

OnePlus 8 price starts at $699 (Rs. 53,000 approx.) and it will be available soon in India. Let’s check out some amazing features of OnePlus 8.

Design

The OnePlus 8 is a gorgeous all-glass design with an aluminum frame for better durability and for keeping the device lightweight. The smartphone comes with a glass panel on the back with a Gorilla Glass protection. We get the same protection on the front as well, the smartphone comes with a screen protector preinstalled on the display.

 

The smartphone is so lightweight and thin that you won’t even feel it on your hands or in your pocket. OnePlus 8 is only 180 grams which are super light and the thickness is 8 mm which is again a flagship standard in smartphones. The smartphone comes in three beautiful colors; Onyx Black, Glacial Green and interstellar Glow.


Display

The display on the OnePlus 8 is not different from the previous version of OnePlus except for the punch hole except for the notch. The display comes with curved edges to give it a more seamless and bezel-less design. It got a display size of 6.55 inches with FHD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate.

The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass and comes with a screen protector preinstalled on it out of the box. OnePlus 8’s display is Fluid AMOLED with support of HDR10+ for better video experience. The display on this smartphone is also equipped with an eye care feature to protect the eyes from strain.

Performance and OS

The OnePlus 8 is a no-compromise smartphone in every aspect and performance is also no bar here. It comes with the latest Qualcomm SNapdraon 865 chipset which is paired with up to 12GB RAM. The smartphone feels even snappier with the 90Hz refresh rate which can be triggered or disabled in the settings.

The smartphone runs on the OxygenOS based on the latest Android 10 with a lot of customizations you can expect from a flagship smartphone. You get a seamless operation throughout the user interface, thanks to the plenty of RAM. The smartphone will get two more Android version update and if OnePlus were generous enough, it can get one more update.

Camera

The OnePlus 8 comes with a triple camera setup at the back including a 48MP main sensor. On the front, the display punch hole holds a 16MP sensor for selfies. The triple camera setup at the back includes a 48MP main sensor which is a Sony IMX586 sensor. Apart from this, it got a 16MP ultra-wide sensor and a 2MP macro camera.

The camera on the OnePlus 8 can do a video up to 4k@60fps which is still flagship standard and you can record slow-motion videos a 480fps max. The camera is equipped with OIS which helps in making stable videos and you even get a mode for even better-stabilized videos.

Battery

The OnePlus 8 comes with a 4300 mAh battery which is big enough for more than a day, without gaming of course! And to charge the smartphone you get a faster Warp Charge 30T which can charge the smartphone at a maximum power of 30W. OnePlus claims that the charger can charger the smartphone to 50 percent in just 22 minutes.

The OnePlus 8 is again coming out to be a flagship killer with all its amazing specifications and build quality. The smartphone will be a benchmark for all those flagship devices with a higher price tag for performance for complete next year.
