How to Download Your Instagram Data

Back in 2018, Instagram rolled out a data download feature that lets you export the data it collects from you. So, if you want to save all of your information, be it for shifting to another platform or to simply keep a copy of everything, follow the guide below to download your Instagram data.

Steps to Download Your Instagram Data

For starters, Instagram’s Data Download tool lets you save a copy of your photos, videos, archived stories, comments, and other profile data on your local device. This came as a part of the giant’s compliance to GDPR privacy law, designed to give users more control over their personal data.

To download your Instagram data, follow the steps mentioned below.

1] Launch the Instagram app on your phone.

2] Go to your Profile Section, tap the hamburger menu on the top-right, and select Settings.

3] Click on Security > Download Data.

4] Here, enter the email-ID where you want to receive a copy of your compiled data. Then, enter your login password and submit.

It will now create a file of things you’ve shared to date on the platform. The link for the same will be mailed to the provided email ID, which may take up to 48 hours to arrive.

You need to click the download link from the received mail and login back using your credentials, after which you’ll be able to download it on your phone or PC.

Besides, you can also access your data within the app using the “Access Data” option in the Security tab. Here, you can see all the changes made to your account, including former user names, bio texts, email addresses, phone numbers, privacy changes, etc. You can also view detailed information on connections, account activity, story activity, and ads.
