Xiaomi just launched its first laptop in India dubbed as Mi Notebook 14. It comes in two different models- the Mi NoteBook 14 and a Horizon Edition. These are powered by 10th Gen Intel Core i5/i7 processor with 8GB of RAM, 2GB NVIDIA MX250/350 GPU options, and 512GB SSD / M.2 NVMe SSD. The laptops run on Windows 10 Home Edition and also come with a 1-month free trial of office 365. They come with 46W battery with fast charging support via 65W adapter and offer up to 10h battery life.

Q. What is the difference between horizon edition and normal edition?
A. The normal edition is powered by the 10th gen Intel Core i5 processor with Nvidia GeForce MX250 GPU, while the Horizon Edition is powered by up to the 10th gen Intel Core i7 processor with MX350 GPU. Also, there is some difference in build quality as well.
Q. How is the build quality of Mi Notebook 14?
A. The Mi Notebook 14 Horizon Edition has a body of aluminum and magnesium alloy. Xiaomi has gone with a matte finish on the lid and surprisingly, there is no logo there.
It can be opened with just one finger, and the bottom won’t raise or even slide because of rubber padding. It where you will see the only Mi logo, right below the screen. The hinge is solid with minimal flex.
Q. How is the display on Mi Notebook 14?
A. These sport a 14-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) 16:9 display with a 178° wide viewing angle. The Horizon edition has a horizon display with slim bezels and 91% screen to body ratio. The screen has 250 nits of brightness level.
Q. How is the typing experience on Mi Notebook 14?
A. The keys on this laptop are based on the scissor mechanism. They have ABS texture and also low travel distance which makes typing more comfortable.
Q. Does it have a heating issue?
A. No, it doesn’t seem so. In our initial testing, we do not find it heating, even while playing PUBG.
Q. Can we charge it via type c port?
A. No. We tried doing so, but it did not get charging support via Type port.
Q. What is the clock speed of the processor?
A. The clock speed of 10th Gen intel core i5 in the regular edition is 1.6GHz, while Core i7 is clocked at 1.8GHz in Horizon edition.
Q. Can it run smoothly heavy software like Corel, Photoshop, Catia, and auto CAD?
A. Yes, it can most of the software smoothly. Watch in our initial impression video, as we play PUBG without any lag.
Q. Can we add HDD to this laptop?
A. No, you cannot.
Q. How many RAM slots are there?
A. There is not any RAM slot.
Q. How is the audio quality of the laptop?
A. The laptop comes with 2x 2W stereo speakers with DTS audio support, which offer a loud & clear sound. It also comes with a 3.5mm headphone/microphone jack.
Q. What about the service center? If it needs to be fixed, can we get parts availability?
A. You can get your MI laptop repaired at the same service centers as mobile. There are about 1000 Mi service centers across 600 cities in India.
Q. What about laptop warranty and is there any warranty extension offer?
A. It comes with a regular 1-year warranty on hardware and 6-months on Xiaomi’s original battery, adapter, and other accessories. There is no news regarding the warranty extension as of now.
