Google Maps is a great app for navigation. Sometimes when you’re on road and don’t know which direction you’re heading. Thankfully, now it’s possible to use Google Maps to know direction online while traveling and you get lost. Here’s how.
This feature will work only if your smartphone has a magnetometer so that it can find the direction using the Earth’s magnetic field. However, most modern Android and iPhone devices come with a magnetic sensor installed.

Know Direction Online Using Google Maps
You can easily find the direction in which you’re traveling using the Google Maps app’s map view. The feature will work when you calibrate your compass first to make sure the direction is accurate.
You will also need to make sure that location services are enabled on your device for more accuracy in finding your location and direction. Now, follow these steps:
1] Now, open the Google Maps app, you will see a small compass symbol in the right corner below the button for changing the map style.
2] If the compass symbol isn’t visible, you can use two of your fingers to move the map view around to find it.
3] The red one in the compass icon is pointing in the north direction and the grey one is pointing south. Like always, the blue beam icon shows your current direction of travel.
4] Using this compass icon as a guide, you can now move in the right direction- whether it’s north, south, east, or west.
This means when your blue icon points upwards, you’re heading north and if it goes downwards, you’re heading south. Also, if the beam is pointing towards the left-hand side, then you’re heading east and if it’s at the right-hand side, you’re going west.
Also, rather than manually moving your map to face a certain direction, you can tap the compass icon and it will automatically point towards north and south and with that, you can find the other directions as well.
