3 Ways to Report Loud Music and Other Noise Pollution Complaint in Delhi

If you want to report loud music or some other kind of noise pollution in your area, you can easily do this online or by calling some numbers. In Delhi, the government has launched a website and helpline numbers to report loud music or noise pollution in your area. Ways to Report Noise Pollution Complaint in Delhi

Calling on Helpline Numbers

Delhi Police has two helpline numbers to report noise pollution in any area. These measures are taken to curb noise pollution and mob lynching incidents in Delhi. The helpline numbers are 155270 and 155271. These are operated by the Delhi Police Control Room. The numbers remain operational 24×7 on all days to make sure a quick response.

Calling PCR (Police Control Room)

You can also call directly to the police on its emergency helpline number at 112. You can then tell them the problem. However, please note that the noise should come under any of the following criteria to be reported:

  • The noise is occurring between 10 PM and 6 AM.
  • If it is above the legal decibel limit which is 55decibel during day and 45 during the night in residential areas.
  • The noise is persistent in the daytime due to some unlawful activity or functions without any legal permission.

Once you report this to the police, the constable will come and ask them to stop in courtesy. and if the noise doesn’t stop, you can go to the police station and call again.

Note: If the noise you reported is coming from a mill, factory, pub, disco, music or dance institute, the police may take the case to the appropriate Pollution Control Board.

Filing Complaint On Website

The Delhi government has also launched a website following the NGT order. People can register their complaints related to noise pollution in the national capital. This is probably the best way to report such cases. Here’s how to file a complaint:

1. Visit the Delhi government’s noise pollution grievance redressal website, i.e. https://ngms.delhi.gov.in/.

2. Now enter your mobile number and click on Get OTP.

3. Enter the OTP received on your number and then click on Verify OTP.

4. Now on the next page, enter your details like name, email ID, place of occurrence of the noise, and describe the noise pollution event. Also, enter the locality and police station of your area.

5. After filling in all the details, click on Submit.

That’s all. Once you fill in the details, you will receive a call from Delhi Police’s PCR within 15-20 minutes and they will ask for your details and confirm the occurrence of noise pollution and its place. They will then go to that place and solve this at the earliest.

Q. What is the time limit for playing loud music in Delhi? 

A. If someone is playing loud music, he/she can play during the day time only and the day time is considered between 6AM to 10 PM. After that, one cannot play louder than the permissible limit.

Q. What is the permissible noise level in residential areas in Delhi?

A. The permissible sound level limit in residential areas is – 55 decibels for day and 45 decibels for the night. Also, in some sensitive areas, it is 50 db during the day and 40 db at night.

While in commercial areas, the audio limit is 65 decibels for the day and 55 for the night.

Q. Can I report neighbors for playing loud music during the daytime? 

A. Yes, you can report your neighbors to the police if they are playing louder than the permissible limit during the daytime. Also, if someone is organizing some function or any other activity without due permission, it can also be reported.

Q. Can I call the police when someone plays loud music in my area? 

A. Yes, you can call the police control room if the music is beyond the permissible limit in your area and the time is after 10 PM.

Q. What is the penalty for noise pollution in Delhi?

A. When someone is found violating the noise pollution norms in the national capital., he/she is subjected to pay a penalty of up to Rs 1 lakh.
