WhatsApp has announced a new “polls” feature for its group chats. So users will now be able to create polls whenever they need an opinion on something from their friends and family. The polls feature is currently in beta and will soon roll out to all users. Apart from this, WhatsApp is also testing a new “communities” feature, which will let WhatsApp users join and create communities to interact with like-minded people.
WhatsApp Polls in Groups
As you already know that Telegram offers the option of a poll in its app, where you can create a poll and ask for people’s suggestions on a topic. Twitter also has the option of a poll. Now, WhatsApp has joined the club. Here’s how you will be able to use polls in WhatsApp groups.
1. Open WhatsApp on your phone and go to a group.
2. Tap on the group name and on the details page, you will see a new “Create a Poll” button.
3. On the next page, enter your question and give poll options and create it.
4. Your group members will see it as a poll in the chat and will be able to vote on it. Once all members submit their votes, you can see the poll results.
This feature is currently under development and will soon roll out to all WhatsApp users on Android and iOS.
WhatsApp Communities Tab
Just like other social media apps, WhatsApp is now also trying its “Communities” feature. This will let users join various communities of their interests, and interact with other WhatsApp users. Here’s how this feature will work.
1. Open WhatsApp on your Android phone.
2. Now, on the home page, you will see a new Communities tab, just before the chats tab. So, basically, it will replace the camera tab.
3. When you tap on it, it will open Communities home. Where you can join various communities by searching their name.
4. WhatsApp group admins will be able to add their whole groups to the communities they want, however, one can choose to leave it on their own, just like groups.
Later on the communities homepage, you will also see the list of all communities you’re part of. The chats in the communities will be private end-to-end encrypted, just like other WhatsApp chats. Much like WhatsApp Pools, the communities feature is also currently under development. This will be released in a future WhatsApp update.
