Sony SRS-XV800: Design and Build Quality
Sony pays excellent attention to detail in its premium products and services. This party speaker is no exception, with its beautiful appearance and solid build quality. The Sony SRS-XV800 comes with typical party speaker aesthetics with RGB party lights. The front has a large metal mesh, which houses most of the speakers on the device.
Moving to the back, we see a large rubber flap hiding all the ports and connectivity options, including the charging port. This rubber flap is used to make these ports and the overall speaker splash-proof to some extent. When standing vertically, the speaker is IPX4 water resistant, and when laid horizontally, the rating drops to IPX2.
Controls
Toward the top, we see all the buttons to control all the features of the Sony SRS-XV800. All the other controls Except the power button are soft-touch buttons. These buttons also light up according to their functions, making them glanceable. Sony also added a slit at the top to hold your smartphone or tablet upright.
A handle is provided at the top to move the speaker easily using the two wheels at the bottom. Moving the speaker is easy, but people taller than 6 feet must bend their knees to move the speaker using this handle properly. Sony should have added a retractable handle to increase the speaker’s height.
The RGB light is another party trick offered by the Sony SRS-XV800. The lights are placed under a small handle that illuminates the speaker’s cavity area. This same trick is also used on the second RGB strip at the speaker’s bottom. Despite the source, these party lights react amazingly well to the music playback on the speaker.
The speaker weighs about 18.5 kilograms and can easily be carried around using the wheels. The rubber feet at the bottom help keep the speaker steady on all surfaces; these rubber feet can be found on the sides to place the speaker horizontally. Sony SRS-XV800 is built with strong materials to survive in all conditions, including pool parties, thanks to its water resistance capabilities.
Sony SRS-XV800: Features
Sony’s party speakers are battery-powered, which is very new in this category. There is no need to find a wall socket to power the speaker. This makes it portable and the perfect companion for camping and pool parties. Whenever you want to boost your TV’s sound quality, just move it next to the TV and use the preferred connectivity option to connect it to your TV.
The speaker comes with two quarter-inch auxiliary ports at the back, which lets you connect a microphone or a guitar to the speaker. You can hook the speaker to a TV and connect a microphone to the speaker to host a perfect Karaoke night in your house. It lets you control the key and volume of each instrument you connect to the speaker.
Sony SRS-XV800: Sound Quality
Sony SRS-XV800 has seven drivers to create an amazing surround sound effect for your parties. Two 170mm woofers in the front provide punchy bass to groove on. While the other three tweeters in the front and two at the top provide crisp sound quality. These speakers are placed specifically to create a surround sound effect whenever required.
This party speaker creates 77 watts of total output using all seven drivers. The bass is powerful enough to complement the loudness of the five tweeters provided. Sony also provided its signature Mega Bass and DSEE enhancer to enhance the sound quality when the source uses a wireless connection. But enabling the Mega Bass feature gives out a wobble bass that may not sound very good to some enthusiasts.
The companion app has many features to enhance and customize the speaker’s sound quality. You can customize the equalizer to your liking and enhance the overall sound quality. As an industry leader, Sony has tuned its party speaker to provide the best sound quality you can get from a party speaker like this.
Sony SRS-XV800: Connectivity
Sony has provided various connectivity options on the SRS-XV800 party speaker. It comes with Bluetooth, Optical, Aux, and USB connectivity. It also supports the Google Fast Pair feature to connect and set it up quickly anywhere and using any device. You can connect a flash drive to the speaker to play offline music with the USB port.
This USB port can also charge your smartphone, but the charging output and speed will be slower. The optical port can connect the TV to your speaker for the best sound quality without latency. With the provided AUX port, you can connect your smartphone or laptop and act a the DJ for your house parties.
Two-quarter-inch AUX ports are provided to connect guitars, mics, or any other instrument to the speaker. So, irrespective of the device you choose to play music from, this party speaker is compatible with all of them. Two Sony SRS-XV800s can be paired together easily to increase the overall output and create a stereo effect.
Sony SRS-XV800: Battery and Charging
Sony SRS-XV800 speaker can give you a total music play time of 25 hours, one of the highest you can get on any party speaker this size. The charging is also quick, so you will spend less time charging the speaker and more time enjoying your favorite music and groove to it. There is no official number on how much time it takes to charge it 100 percent. However, in our testing, it took about an hour to charge this speaker 100 percent.
