IMC 2024: A Tech and Innovation Wonderland

Upon entering the gigantic airport lookalike at Pragati Maidan, the IMC welcomed us with superhero background music and a new world of tech booths all around the place. New and old inventions, discoveries from popular brands like Jio and Airtel welcomed us, while many hidden startup gems were much like a treasure hunt. With agricultural drones to defense satellites and VR glasses, the IMC was no less than a wonderland. Below, I have shared more on what we caught our hands on.

1. Qualcomm Snapdragon-powered Redmi A4 5G

At the Qualcomm booth, Xiaomi unveiled the sleek Redmi A4 5G, making it India’s first device powered by the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 Mobile Platform14. Partnered with Qualcomm, Xiaomi India President Muralikrishnan B confirmed it will be priced under Rs 10,000. While Xiaomi hasn’t announced an exact launch date, they assured us that the Redmi A4 5G will hit Indian markets “soon.”

2. Jio Smart VR Glasses

The Jio Smart VR Glasses at the Jio booth were futuristic gadgets, much like Meta’s glasses. The JioGlass can expand your smartphone screen to a virtual 100-inch display, creating an immersive viewing experience that seems to float before your eyes. We explored some educational apps available through the JioImmerse XR Store during my hands-on time. While Reliance hasn’t announced pricing or availability details yet, the JioGlass is listed as “coming soon” on their website.

3. IIT Madras 6G Speed-test

Using high-speed MM waves, the IIT Madras booth showcased a literal 6Gbps+ speed possibility turning into a reality. In use cases, they shared how such data “spots” could prove to be useful in airports to download huge movies in a second or so. But watching these high speeds makes you feel nostalgic about the 2G/3G speed times and how much we have evolved. Do you think we are ready for 6G yet?

4. Ericson Robotic AI dog (Rocky)

On Ericson, the show-stealer was the AI robot dog Rocky, which used cameras and a Wi-Fi setup to identify and alarm for different emergency scenarios, such as fire. It could very well recognise people with safety jackets and those without them. Such robots could help save human lives, especially when present in prone areas and also help reconnaissance such sites.

5. Cloud Computing via Primebook and Jio Set-top box

We also met the co-founder of Primebook, Mr. Chitranshu Mahant as he explained to use how a Rs 15k Android laptop could very well run a heavy game using cloud computing. During his explanation, he showed us how, the android based laptop could have its own, 24GB high end processor CPU running on Windows 11, using Cloud computing. Similarly, Jio showcased its Jio set-top box with Windows 11, again using Cloud computing technology.

6. Voyx travel-friendly e-sim card

Another interesting booth we encountered was the Voyx e-sim card, which did intrigue us. While there are tons of brands offering international data packages, their hassle-free e-sim and prices were much like eye candy. They also shared that if used the code IMC50, one could get up to 50% off of their services. If you’re one who is about to travel across international lands or is a frequent traveller, this could be a useful tool.

Wrapping Up

While there were tons of booths at IMC, we did feel missed out on exploring them all. However, such new affordable innovative tech, does make it exciting for what’s about to come. For more such exclusive news, event coverage and more, stay tuned to GadgetsToUse.
