Lenovo S850 Quick Review, Price and Comparison

Lenovo came up with a slew of smartphones at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014 early this year and is gradually releasing these handsets into the global markets. The latest one to enter the Indian smartphone arena is the Lenovo S850 bearing a reasonable price tag of Rs 15,499 for its impressive feature set. Let us take a look at the quick review of the smartphone below:

Camera and Internal Storage

The Lenovo S850 arrives with an acceptable camera performance possessing a 13 MP primary snapper at its back with auto focus, LED flash and HDR shooting mode. This camera is paired with a good 5 MP shooter at the front that can make video calls and click gorgeous looking self portrait shots. Given the pricing of the handset, these camera features sound pretty acceptable.

The smartphone bundles a remarkable 16 GB of internal storage capacity that should suffice all the storage requirements of the users. The handset lacks expandable storage support as there is no micro SD card slot onboard. It has to be noted that the newly launched XonPhone 5 also houses 16 GB storage capacity, but it has expandable storage support.

Processor and Battery

The Lenovo smartphone utilizes a quad-core MediaTek MT6582 processor clocked at 1.3 GHz coupled with Mali-400MP2 graphics engine. A 1 GB of RAM joins this processor in delivering acceptable levels of multi-tasking without any clutter. These raw hardware aspects make the Lenovo S850 a better smartphone that can render faster performance.

The battery on the smartphone is a standard 2,000 mAh unit, but Lenovo is known for incorporating powerful batteries in its offerings that can render decent backup with ease. Going by the same, this 2,000 mAh battery is rated to pump in a life of up to 13 hours of talk time and 336 hours of standby time.

Display and Features

The Lenovo S850 comes with a 5 inch display packing a HD screen resolution of 1280×720 pixels. This combination of screen size and resolution renders an average pixel density of 294 pixels per inch that makes the screen suitable for everyday tasks.

Like the other latest smartphone offerings, this one also runs on Android 4.4 KitKat operating system and it packs standard connectivity features such as 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and dual SIM functionality.

Comparison

The Lenovo S850 will be a stiff challenger to Micromax Canvas 4, Gionee GPad G4, XonPhone 5, Zenfone 5, Xolo Q1000S and others.

What we Like

  • Ample 16 GB of native storage space
  • Good camera set

What we Dislike

  • Lack of expandable storage support

Price and Conclusion

The Lenovo S850 priced at Rs 15,499 will have to put in a great effort to race against the octa-core phones that have crowded this segment of the market. Well, the handset includes some interesting aspects such as a capable processor, a decent display and a good camera set, but it lacks in terms of superior battery and expandable storage space. As the battery backup is one of the most sought after features of a smartphone, the Lenovo S850 will be a meager participant as there are a handful of smartphones with long hours of backup in the sub Rs 10,000 price bracket.
