Xiaomi Mi Max User Interface

The Mi max runs on the Android Marshmallow (6.0) with company’s own custom UI, MIUI 8 on the top. MIUI 8 offers a quite good set of features. It is highly customisable with it themes and is a heavily customized skin. Xiaomi has made it truly unique with its own extensive set of modifications and feature additions. Even though it lacks an app drawer and everything remains on the homescreens, it is one of the best looking custom skins out there.

Xiaomi Mi Max Camera Overview

Mi Max (2)

It comes with a 16MP shooter on the back with PDAF, f/2.0, dual-tone LED flash and a 5MP shooter on the front with f/2.0. Camera takes great shots during daylight and the pictures came out to very detailed and crisp. Colors looks great and accurate though the camera struggles a bit during low light situation. The focus is pretty quick, all thanks to the PDAF (Phase Detection Autofocus). The front camera also takes quite good shots.

Gaming Performance

Game Mi max

To test the processing power of the Mi Max, I installed 2 graphic intensive games including Asphalt 8 and Modern Combat 5 on this device. As far as my experience is concerned, Mi Max has everything a gamer needs. It was offering flagship like performance while playing Asphalt 8, with no lags or glitches. The big display definitely makes the gaming experience even better. I noticed a few framedrops in between both the games but it was not something that can distract while you are gaming.

Both the games felt smooth and the temperature was well under control even after prolonged gaming session. You can check the battery drop rate in the table below.

GamePlaying DurationBattery Drop (%)
Modern Combat 530 minutes11%
Asphalt 825 minutes9%

Price, Availability and Competition

The phone will be launched on 30th of June in India. The company has announced that it is looking for 500 people for the beta testing. Most probably it will be available through Flash sales like most of the Xiaomi devices. It is priced at 1,499 yuan (INR 15,500 approx) in China. We also expect the price to be between INR 15,000 to INR 16,500 here in India.

Its closest competitors will be the Moto G4 Plus, LeEco Le 2 and company’s own Redmi Note 3.

Conclusion

All in all its a nice device with a nice set of specs. It has got a good hardware, decent camera and a ultra thin body, though the phone feels a bit big. The big chassis of the phone also provide a room for a bigger battery and hence it comes with massive 4,850 mAh battery. If the big screen isn’t a big deal for you then its definitely a nice device to own.
