Design, Build and Display
OPPO N3 hits the sweet spot between OPPO N1 and OPPO N1 Mini with a 5.5 Inch display. The polycarbonate body is held together by an industrial grade Aluminum frame, protruding from the edges which lend it a nice grip.
Due to skyline notification LED or Notification light 2.0 on the bottom (which we loved on Find 7) and Swivel camera at the top, all ports have been shifted to side edges. This is fine with regards to MicroUSB port but you will have to take care of the phones orientation in your pocket when a headphone is plugged in (might poke you in your pocket).
The touch Pad at the back has been enhanced as well; it now incorporates a fingerprint scanner which can be used to unlock the phone and encrypt images. The display is a TFT panel with Full HD resolution amounting to sharp 493 ppi. Brightness and viewing angles also seemed fine. The display is protected by Gorilla Glass 3 on top.
Processor and RAM
The processor used is 2.3 GHz Snapdragon 801 quad core with Adreno 320 GPU. Yes we do have Snapdragon 805 phones sprouting up, but Snapdragon 801 with 2 GB RAM is powerful enough to handle full HD 1080p resolution and Color OS with ease. In our initial time with OPPO N3, it seemed as snappy as any and we expect this to hold in the long run.
Camera and Internal Storage
The 16 MP Motorized swivel camera with 1/ 2.3” sensor, f2.2 aperture, high end carl Zeiss optics and dual mode flash is Schneider Kreuznach certified and features. You can record 4K videos and 30fps and 720p videos at 120 fps. In our initial testing, the camera seemed to perform quite well, but we would like to test it outdoors before we judge it.
Internal storage is 32 GB and this time OPPO has also provided with a MicroSD card slot which can accept another 64 GB external storage.
User Interface and Battery
Software is Android 4.4 KitKat with Color OS 2.0 on top. There is no word on CyanogenMod variant or Lollipop upgrade yet. The color OS is loaded with features, similar to Oppo N1 and some of these, including gesture support are quite handy.
Battery is quite capacious at 3000 mAh and will also benefit from VOOC rapid charging technology. OPPO has reduced the size of its VOOC charger and is now calling it VOOC mini charger. We found VOOC charging very useful on Find 7 and we are assured that you won’t have to suffer on account of scanty battery backup. OPPO N3 can go from 0 to 75 percent in 30 minutes

Conclusion
OPPO N3 doesn’t run after the latest and greatest in the tech world and focuses more on making its Swivel camera better. OPPO has improved on the biggest drawback of N1, its sheer size. The new N3 focuses on better user experience without unnecessarily inflating the price tag, which has been marked as $649. VOOC rapid charging, Swivel camera, new O-Click remote – all make us eager to spend more time with it.
