Build Quality

Build quality of this device is good and it sports a metal uni-body design like any other mid range smartphone. However the metal back is removable for inserting SIM card and micro-SD card although battery still remains non-removable. The fingerprint sensor sits on the front of the device. Design wise it’s not a very fresh looking design, we have already seen this design on many other smartphones.

Physical Overview

Panasonic Eluga Ray Max is a decently designed phone with 5.2 inch Full-HD LCD IPS Display with Corning Gorilla glass 3 protection. It comes with 1920 x 1080 resolution.

Just above the display on the front upper side is the earpiece followed by a 8MP selfie camera and an LED flash on the either sides.

At the bottom of the display are the navigation buttons and a fingerprint sensor which sits on the chin.

On the top of the smartphone there’s nothing but just a 3.5mm headphone jack

Bottom of the smartphone houses a speaker, a primary mic and a micro USB.

Left part has got the volume up & down button and a power button.

On the back you will see a secondary mic on the top, a 16MP camera and a LED flash below that. There is a Panasonic branding in the center and Eluga branding below that.

Inside the removable back cover, there’s are two micro SIM card slots and a micro-SD card slot.

Gaming Performance

Panasonic Eluga Ray Max has a decent 1.4 GHz Octa Core processor with Qualcomm MSM8937 Snapdragon 430 chipset and Adreno 505 GPU. It has 4 GB RAM and 32 GB or 64 GB internal storage. The gaming performance was good but it is not very suitable for heavy gamers. We played Asphalt 8 on this phone, overall the performance was decent with minimal heating.

Sensors

Panasonic Eluga Ray Max is packed with bunch of sensors. There are all the necessary sensors included in the device and there are some additional sensors as well. It includes all the basic sensors like Accelerometer, Proximity Sensor, Magnetometer, Gravity Sensor, Pedometer and a Fingerprint sensor of course. Although this device lacks a Gyroscope sensor which is a slight compromise done on this device.

Conclusion

Panasonic Eluga Ray Max is a decent device with a decent specification. However there is nothing in this device which makes it to stand out of the competition. Moreover we feel that Panasonic has used a low powered chip-set for the price it’s being offered which is major disappointment if you are a heavy user. It has got ample amount of RAM and storage so there is no issues in terms of storage and multitasking. Overall the phone is good but there’s nothing to be impressed of. Phone like Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 and Moto G5 are better options than Panasonic Eluga Ray Max in this price segment.
