Xolo Q1000 Opus 2 Quick Review, Price and Comparison

Xolo Q1000 Opus was the first phone in India to feature Broadcom Chipset and 6 months later, Xolo has ditched the chipset in Opus 2, for popular Snapdragon 200 MSM8212, which can be seen in several upcoming budget quad core smartphones. Besides the conspicuous change in chipset, let’s take a look at what else Xolo Q1000 Opus brings to the table.

Camera and Internal Storage

The primary camera now flaunts and 8 MP camera at the rear which will be more detailed compared to the 5 MP snapper on the predecessor. Though it’s hard to judge camera quality from the Megapixel count, it’s the most number of pixels you could expect in this price range. The rear camera can also record 720p HD videos and is also supported by LED flash. A front 2 MP shooter is also present for video calling.

Internal storage is same 4 GB, and we are not big fans of paltry 4 GB internal storage model, which most manufacturers tend to follow. OEMs should move on to at least 8 GB storage similar to what Micromax did with Unite A092.

Processor and Battery

Processor employed is MSM8212 Quad Core Snapdragon 200 Chipset clocked at 1.2 GHz. The 4 cortex A7 based cores are aided with Adreno 302 GPU and 1 GB RAM. The chipset is formed on slightly dated 45 nm process technology and judging by the benchmark scores of Micromax Elanza 2 which uses the same chipset, you won’t see much difference in day to day performance compared to Xolo Q1000 Opus.

Battery capacity is 2000 mAh and Xolo has not yet specified the battery backup you can extract from it. The battery should last for around 1 day of low to moderate usage.

Display and Other Features

The display is 5 inches in size and the resolution has been bumped up to qHD 960 x 540 pixels which amount to 220 pixels per inch. The display won’t be as sharp but pretty usable considering the 5 inch size. Since its an IPS LCD panel, viewing angles will be good.

The Dual SIM smartphone runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system where as Xolo Q1000 Opus is now running on KitKat after OTA update. The 9.3 mm thick smartphone also features 3G HSPA+, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and GLONASS.

Comparison

Xolo Q1000 Opus 2 will compete against new generation budget quad core smartphones like Micromax Elanza 2, Intex Aqua i5 HD, Canvas 2 Colors and Xolo’s own Q1010i.

Conclusion and Price

Xolo Q1000 Opus was extremely buggy when it was launched and Xolo had to fix it with several firmware updates. We hope Opus 2 doesn’t follow its legacy. Xolo Q1000 Opus 2 is definitely an improved variant which seems a good quad core, 1 GB RAM option with a large 5 inch display, in case you are looking under 10,000 INR range. We expect the price to fall further in upcoming weeks. You can buy it for 9,780 INR on snapdeal.
