The number of Android KitKat based smartphones in rising constantly with numerous manufacturers including global and homegrown players stacking up such handsets in the budget market segment. One of the manufacturers that is pretty active in releasing a slew of handsets in this space is Xolo that is launching a device almost every week. Today, Xolo has come up with the Q610s, the successor of the Xolo Q600 launched in May. Let us take a quick review of the handset below:

xolo q610s

Camera and Internal Storage

The Xolo Q610s comes with an average imaging hardware given its pricing. At the back of the device is a 5 MP camera that is aided with LED flash for a better low light performance. There is a front facing VGA camera unit that can take charge of video calling. At this pricing there are hardly any offerings that come with at least an 8 MP camera sensor onboard and the incorporation of such an improved sensor would have made it better in terms of competition. The 5 MP rear shooter can record 1080p full HD videos

The internal storage capacity of the smartphone is 8 GB that is becoming a common aspect in the entry-level smartphones while many are stuck up with only 4 GB storage capacity. This storage capacity can be expanded further by another 32 GB with the help of a micro SD card.

Processor and Battery

Under its hood, the Xolo phone is stuffed with a 1.3 GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6582M processor. This processor is coupled with a 416 MHz clocked Mali-400 MP2 graphics unit and 1 GB of RAM. These aspects are pretty standard among most of the budget smartphones and there is nothing out-of-the-box in this one.

The battery unit powered the device is a 1,700 mAh one that should be fine for a day of moderate usage. However, a battery with increased capacity could have helped the Xolo Q610s to stand up against the competition.

Display and Features

The display unit in the Xolo phone is a 4.5 inch IPS panel that has a screen resolution of 854×480 pixels. While the IPS panel will render good viewing angles and decent color reproduction, the On-Cell technology will make the body compact with a good screen-to-body ratio of over 74%. This display is very average and the incorporation of a larger display or increased pixel resolution would make the handset attract the consumers who prefer high quality screens in a competitively priced smartphone.

It runs on Android 4.4 KitKat that is impressive with better resources. In addition, it packs usual connectivity features such as 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS along with dual SIM functionality. Furthermore, the design of the handset is pretty impressive with a leather like back cover.

Comparison

The Xolo Q610s will be a touch challenger to the Moto EAsus Zenfone 4.5, Lava Iris X1, Xiaomi Redmi 1S and others in the sub Rs 8,000 price bracket.

Price and Comparison

The Xolo Q610s is yet another average entry-level smartphone in the sub Rs 8,000 price bracket with a standard spec sheet. However, the handset takes the advantage of having an increased storage capacity and compact build. These aspects make the device stand apart from the competition, but it would have been great if Xolo had used a better display resolution and enhanced battery capacity. Moreover, there is a tough competition in this segment with the global players such as Xiaomi, Asus and Motorola launching solid offerings in this space.
