Moto E5, Moto E5 Plus, Moto E5 Play launched: Price, specifications, availability

Lenovo-owned Motorola has launched the Moto E5 series of smartphones in the entry-level segment. The new smartphones in the series include the Moto E5, Moto E5 Plus, and Moto E5 Play. These E5 series smartphones look like the lighter versions of the recently launched respective Moto G6 models.

Interestingly, Motorola has followed the same trend as Moto G6 series in this Moto E5 series too. So, only two of the Moto E5 series phones sport the modern 18:9 aspect ratio, while the third Moto E5 Play still packs the 16:9 display. All the three Moto E5 models sport selfie flash and a fingerprint sensor embedded in the Motorola logo on the back.

Moto E5 Specifications

Moto E5 features a 5.7-inch display with the 18:9 aspect ratio and HD+ resolution. It is powered by a 1.4GHz quad-core Snapdragon 425 chipset with 2GB of RAM. The phone will come in dual- as well single-SIM (Nano SIM) variants and it will be running stock Android 8.0 Oreo.

As for the optics, the Moto E5 has a 13-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and LED flash and a 5-megapixel selfie camera with selfie flash. It will be released in Flash Gray and Fine Gold color options. Connectivity features are 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2 LE, NFC (in single SIM variant only), and 3.5mm audio jack. Moto E5 packs a massive 4,000mAh battery.

Moto E5 Plus Specifications

Moto E5 Plus has a 6-inch IPS display with 18:9 aspect ratio and HD+ (720×1440 pixel) resolution. The smartphone has a splash-resistant coating to protect it from splashes of water and other liquids. The stock Android 8.0 Oreo smartphone is said to be powered by the Snapdragon 435 processor with 3GB of RAM. It comes with 32GB of internal storage, and microSD card supports up to 128GB.

For imaging, there is a 12-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, laser autofocus and phase-detection autofocus (PDAF), and LED flash. There is an 8-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.2 aperture at front.

Connectivity options on the handset include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2 LE, 3.5mm earphone jack, and Micro-USB port. Its highlight is the 5000mAh battery, with Turbocharge support that will provide 6 hours battery life on 15 minutes of charge.

Moto E5 Play Specifications

Coming to the last model, the Moto E5 Play sports a smaller 5.2-inch HD (720×1280 pixel) display with old 16:9 aspect ratio. It also has the water-repellent coating for splash-proofing as well. Moto E5 Play will be powered by Snapdragon 425/427 SoC with 2GB RAM. The inbuilt storage is 16GB with up to 128GB expansion option with the help of microSD card.

As for cameras, there is an 8-megapixel sensor with f/2.0 aperture and LED flash on the back, and a 5-megapixel camera on the front. The handset comes in Black, Dark Lake, and Flash Gray color options. Connectivity options are 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2 LE, 3.5mm earphone jack, and Micro-USB port. The phone packs a 2800mAh battery.

Price and availability

The Moto E5 price will be EUR 149 (Rs. 12,000 approx.) while Moto E5 Plus will cost EUR 169 (approx. Rs. 13,700). The Moto E5 Play will be restricted to the US only, and its price has also not been revealed yet. Motorola has not yet revealed Moto E5 series India price and launch date.
