Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset with AI features for mid-range phones announced

Qualcomm has launched a new Snapdragon 710 mobile chipset in its all-new 700 series. The new Snapdragon 700 series is designed to offer premium features and performance to the mid-range phones that were previously exclusive to the Snapdragon 800 series. It is designed with a multi-core AI Engine and neural network processing capabilities.

This is the first model in Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 700 Mobile Platform series which was unveiled at the MWC 2018. The Snapdragon 710 is currently available to mobile manufacturers and other device manufacturers, and the consumer-ready products are expected in the Q2 2018. As per an earlier report, Xiaomi may use the new chipset in two of its upcoming smartphones.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 features

The new Snapdragon 710 Mobile Platform is built on a 10nm process. Qualcomm is touting that it is designed with highly efficient architectures for artificial intelligence, featuring a multi-core AI Engine and neural network processing capabilities. The processor is said to deliver up to twice the overall performance improvements in AI applications, as compared to Snapdragon 660 SoC.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 700

Snapdragon 710 SoC features the new Snapdragon X15 LTE modem, a Category 15 LTE modem that supports up to 800Mbps download speeds. It also includes 4×4 MIMO technology for up to 70 percent faster download speeds in weak signal conditions. The processor also comes with new Wi-Fi features, Bluetooth 5 support, Qualcomm Broadcast Audio, and Qualcomm TrueWireless Stereo Plus.


In terms of display features, the Snapdragon 710 SoC supports 4K HDR playback for viewing HDR videos and also brings more brightness, wider color gamut, and color depth. Further, Qualcomm says that because of improvements in the Adreno 616 Visual Processing Subsystem, Snapdragon 710-based handsets will be running on low power consumption.

With the Snapdragon 710, smartphones can expect up to 40 percent reduction in power consumption for both gaming and 4K HDR video playback, when compared to Snapdragon 660-based smartphones. Also, its new Kryo 360 architecture is built on ARM Cortex technology which is optimized to support up to a 20 percent boost in performance, 25 percent faster browsing and 15 percent faster app launch times. The Snapdragon 710 SoC supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4+ technology, and which can help to charge 50 percent battery within 15 minutes.
