Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Quick Review, Camera Overview and Pricing

Last month at the Mobile World Congress, Samsung launched their Galaxy S7 and the S7 Edge, with stating that the phone will be available in the US starting 11th March. And today, in an event held in New Delhi, the company launched the phone in India. The move that Samsung made to launch the phone in India along with the world is a good start, and I hope they continue doing this in the future as well.

Moving to the rear of the phone, you’ll find the camera module, which is supposed to be excellent in taking pictures. Just along with the camera module, you’ll find the LED flash. Just below the LED Flash, you’ll find the heart rate sensor that Samsung usually packs in its flagship smartphones. Other than that the back of the phone is clear and features a Corning Gorilla Glass 4 on the back as well.

User Interface

The user interface on the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is just like we’ve seen all the other Samsung Devices. The phone is running Android Marshmallow 6.0 based Samsung TouchWiz, but the TouchWiz version has been updated and is much lighter than before. The settings and other interface buttons on the phone stay the same as before. We’ll cover more about the user interface of the Galaxy S7 Edge in our full review.

Camera Overview

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge (2)

The primary camera on the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is a 12-megapixel shooter, a decline in the megapixel count from last year’s 16-megapixel camera on the Galaxy S6 Edge. But the decline in the megapixel count does not mean that the images are not going to be good. The Galaxy S7 Edge has much-improved sensor size and features an aperture of f/1.7, which should result in great images even in a low light scenario.

The secondary camera on the device is a 5-megapixel camera, with auto HDR mode to switch to HDR when required. The front camera on the device also packs a f/1.7 aperture to capture good pictures in low light scenarios.

Additional Information

This year, the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is IP68 water resistant, which means that it can withstand 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes before breaking. This time, Samsung has achieved that without the need for any flaps and all the ports are open this time, unlike the ones we saw on the Galaxy S5 a few years ago.

As far as the hardware specifications go, the variant that is launched in India features only 32GB of internal storage, but that can be expanded via a microSD card. Also, the variant launched in India is powered by an Exynos processor, unlike the US version which comes with a Snapdragon 820 processor.

Another interesting feature on the device is the always-on display that will keep on showing you the time and the calendar always though you can turn off this setting if you don’t like it. This feature is said to not use an extensive battery as it only lights up the required pixels on the screen and nothing else.

Price and Availability

The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge was launched in India today for a price of INR 56,900 and there’s a gift for the early adopters of the phone. If you pre-order the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, you get a Samsung Gear VR bundled with the smartphone. Also, the phone will be available starting 18th March in India and pre-orders are open until 17th March.

Conclusion

The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge looks like an awesome smartphone based on the first impressions. The camera of the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is something that will be amazing because of that Dual Pixel technology that Samsung has brought to the smartphone. I am looking forward to testing the device fully in the coming days, so stay tuned for the Camera Review, the Gaming review and then finally the full review of the device.
