Popular domestic manufacturer today unveiled 2 new smartphones, both from their Iris series, namely the Iris 505 and the Iris 506q. The devices have been priced at 8,999 INR and 11,700 INR respectively, and are only available online, currently. Availability in physical stores is expected to begin soon.
These devices would be looking to bank on the popularity gained with the Iris 504q smartphone that was launched a few months back. It was Lava’s first phone to feature gesture control, and the device did fairly well in the market.
Coming to the new launches, the Iris 505 comes with a 5 inch display featuring an FWVGA resolution of 854×480 pixels. The device will be powered by a dual core processor clocked at 1.2GHz and will have 512MB of RAM. This suggests that the device will be aimed at the budget mid-range smartphone market in the country, which has seen a boom in the recent months.
The device will come pre-installed with Android v4.2, which is a good sign. Imaging will be taken care of by a 5MP main camera at the rear of the device, paired with a VGA front-facing camera for use during video calls. As you might have expected, the phone comes with 4GB of ROM out of which about 2GB would be available for the user. There’s a microSD slot as well, for expansion of storage up to 32GB.
Moving ahead to the 506q, the device is the more powerful of the two. As you might’ve guessed by the ‘q’ at the end of the model name, the phone comes with a quad core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz. The cameras remain the same as that on the Iris 505, 5MP rear and VGA front. The device features a 5 inch screen too, but with a better resolution in qhD – 960×540 pixels. Storage and memory features are the same as the 505; 4GB ROM and 512MB RAM, with expandable storage up to 32GB. This device too will come pre-loaded with Android v4.2.
These two devices will have an array of competitors in the market, for eg, the Spice Stellar Glamour, Micromax Canvas Ego, etc. respectively.
