Chinese smartphone maker Gionee has released the miniature variant of its flagship smartphone – Elife E7 Mini in India for Rs 18,999. It is not a surprise to see Chinese smartphones being released in India as the market has become the second home for the offerings from the neighborhood. However, there are competitive smartphones that are announced by the homegrown manufacturers as well. One such smartphone is the Karbonn Titanium Octane Plus launched last month. We have come up with a detailed comparison on both these octa-core smartphones for the consumers who are looking to upgrade their handsets.

Display and Processor

The Karbonn offering sports a 5 inch IPS LCD capacitive touch screen display boasting FHD resolution of 1920×1080 pixels translating to 441 ppi pixel density. On the other hand, the Gionee Elife E7 Mini arrives with a 4.7 inch IGZO capacitive touch screen display that packs HD 1280×720 pixel resolution that totals to 312 ppi pixel density. While the IPS displays deliver excellent viewing angles and color reproduction, the IGZO display panels consume less power and are cost effective.

On the hardware front, both the handsets fare well with an octa-core MediaTek MT6592 processor clocked at 1.7 GHz. This processor is coupled with a Mali-450MP4. However, the Karbonn Titanium Octane Plus houses 2 GB of RAM for improved multi-tasking while there is only 1 GB of RAM in the Gionee phone.

Camera and Internal Storage

The Gionee Elife E7 Mini offers a slew of aspiring photography aspects. It includes a 13 MP rotating camera sensor at the rear with auto focus and LED flash. This camera can rotate 360 degrees and it is a great aspect to capture attractive selfies. Also, the lens has Blue Glass Filter that filters the infrared light in order to capture clear and natural looking images.


In comparison, the Karbonn Titanium Octane Plus includes a 16 MP primary camera with auto focus and LED flash and it is supplemented with an 8 MP front-facing snapper to facilitate in making video calls.

Talking about the storage capabilities, both the smartphones have 16 GB of internal storage capacity. But the difference is that, the Gionee phone does not support expandable storage while Titanium Octane Plus has a micro SD card supporting up to 32 GB.

Battery and Features

The Karbonn Titanium Octane Plus is backed by a 2,000 mAh battery, but there is no word on the backup offered by the handset. In comparison, the Gionee Elife E7 mini is fueled by a 2,200 mAh battery that delivers up to 14 hours of talk time and 200 hours of standby time.

On the operating system front, the Karbonn phone runs on the latest version – Android 4.4.2 KitKat, whereas the Gionee handset is based on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with no word regarding the upgrade.

Karbonn Titanium Octane Plus and Gionee Elife E7 Mini are octa-core smartphones that are priced reasonably in order to let the price conscious consumers to enjoy the experiences of an octa-core phone without spending too much on high-end offerings. When it comes to unique photographic aspects, the Gionee smartphone with a swiveling camera is the winner. On the other hand, for those preferring expandable memory support and high quality display, the Karbonn smartphone is the better choice.
