Fast rising domestic OEM Micromax has set up a manufacturing plant in India, according to reports. It has been set up in Rudrapur, a town in the state of Uttarakhand. It’s been learnt that the maker initially started off with manufacturing LED TVs and tablets at the unit, and is now beginning to move towards smartphone manufacture.
As Gogi.in reports rightly, having a smartphone plant in the country will help Micromax in more ways than one – right for after sales support to spare part availability, Micromax is expected to gain for the manufacturing unit in the country. What it will also do is let Micromax use the ‘Made in India’ tag, something which it has been after since ages.
Affordable manufacture in China has always been the Achilles heel for desi makers, and it is heartening to see one in the herd try something different. It isn’t quite clear how many and which phones Micromax is/will be manufacturing at the India plant, but it is good news regardless.
The company has been in the news lately for its newest phablet on the block, the Canvas Doodle 3. With a price tag of just Rs. 8,500, the device was launched some days back and is scheduled to go on sale in starting April 25, i.e., tomorrow.
