LG L80 Quick Review, Price and Comparison

Update: LG L80 Dual is listed on the LG India official website with a price tag of Rs 17,500.

Ahead of the Mobile World Congress 2014, LG announced its Optimus L III lineup and showcased the first handsets in the lineup including L40, L70 and L90 at the tech show in February. Today, LG Indonesia added another handset to this lineup with the announcement of L80 for IDR 2,500,000 (approx. Rs 13,100). The handset was subjected to many leaks revealing its specs and live renders even hours before its launch and now, after the official launch of the phone here we come with its quick review.

Camera and Internal Storage

The LG L80 features a 5 MP primary camera that is teamed up with LED flash and a VGA shooter at the front that assists in making video calls. Though the handset has basic camera photography capabilities, being a mid-ranger these figures are satisfactory.

On the storage front, the L80 bundles 4 GB of default storage space that can be expanded with the help of a micro SD card. But, LG has not revealed the exact limit of expandable storage. Again, the 4 GB of in-built storage capacity is too low to save all the default software and applications, but the presence of additional storage is there for the rescue.

Processor and Battery

The LG L80 comes stuffed with a dual-core Qualcomm processor of unspecified chipset ticking at 1.2 GHz. Taking charge of the multi-tasking department is 1 GB of RAM that can deliver an acceptable level of performance. As the budget smartphone offerings are incorporating octa-core chipsets LG could have at least used a quad-core one in the L80.

Likewise the L90, the L80 also has a 2,540 mAh battery. Though the backup delivered by this handset is not known, it is believed to provide enough juice for the phone to last for day.

Display and Features

The LG L80 flaunts a 5 inch WVGA IPS display that carries a resolution of 480×800 pixels, which again too low for a 5 inch phone. But, the IPS panel will provide exceptional viewing angles and deliver good color reproduction.

To stay connected, LG L80 packs a slew of connectivity features such as Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, 3G and GPS. As the other phones in the lineup, even the L80 is based on Android v4.4 KitKat topped with the Optimus UI. Obviously, the handset will include LG exclusive software features such as Knock Code. Also, Nimbuzz messaging app has tied up with the firm to offer 100 minutes of free international calls to any U.S. based number from the L Series III phones.

Comparison

The LG L80 can be compared to handsets such as Moto X, Lava Iris 406Q and Samsung Galaxy Ace Style.

Price and Conclusion

On the pricing front, though there is no clue on what will be its price in India, the handset should be priced in the sub Rs 17,000 price bracket as the L90 with better specs is priced at 19,000. On the specs front, the L80 lacks a better display, enhanced processor with more cores and an improved camera set.
