Over the last week, Microsoft was in the headlines for announcing the new Microsoft Lumia branding. Now, the software giant is back in the news for detailing the Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 and Lumia Denim updates. It will be rolled out to the Lumia devices based on Windows Phone 8 platform by the end of this year.
Talking about the Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1, it is claimed that it will bring some new features onto the table including folders on Start screen, SMS merge and forwarding, consumer VPN, faster Internet Explorer, updated Cortana in US, Beta version of the same in China and UK and Alpha version of it in India, Canada and Australia. It is claimed to also add Apps Corner mode like Kid’s mode that has a separate and secure Start screen along with customized access.
It has to be noted that all these enhancements will be made available not only to the Lumia devices, but to all the Windows Phone 8 based smartphones irrespective of their manufacturer. However, the Lumia Denim update is exclusive only to the Lumia devices and it will add the following features.
The Lumia Denim update will add a faster and better Lumia Camera app, faster photo snapping, Moment Capture feature that is sensor dependent, Rich Capture with auto HDR and dynamic flash, “Hey Cortana” voice activation, enhanced image processing for better snaps and better Glance screen with Bing Weather, Health & Fitness and more.
The Windows Phone device users can expect some new features by the end of this year. However, a specific time frame for the rollout of these updates is not mentioned.
