Samsung Gear S3: Things We Like and Dislike & Comparison

Samsung has again given its smart watch segment a comeback with successor to Samsung Gear S2 that is, Samsung Gear S3. Samsung has launched the new smart watch in India today. It is priced at Rs. 28,500 and again, loaded with what we call- features and specifications. We will be overviewing this wearable gadget in a simple way, so that you can know how different, common, below/above the average you can expect it to be.

Specification’s comparison

What we see here is a strong competition. Samsung Gear S3 is a new arrival to market with existing watches like Asus Zenwatch 3 and Huawei smartwatch. All three have their own specification to stand alone with. Let’s compare the specifications and experience how exactly Samsung Gear S3 is, as compared to Asus Zenwatch 3 and Huawei smartwatch.

[table id=789 /]

You may find better resolution in Asus Zenwatch 3 and Huawei smartwatch in numbers, but hands on experience on Samsung might turn out to be a better scenario because of its Super AMOLED screen, which makes the colors sharper and dynamic.

On the other hand, you can see Asus and Huawei offering quad-core processors and Samsung dual-core. But, then it sufficed by Samsung’s 380 mAh battery over Asus’s 341 and huawei’s 300 mAh battery.

As evident with above specifications, you can see Samsung taking over in many terms but the parameter is going up and down on all three sides.

Let’s talk about 5 things that intrigued us into Samsung Gear S3

Classy designs

It looks like an outdoor watch, almost for any kind of usage which makes it a good watch to consider. This particular smart watch is made better with its improved rotating bezel. This is what Samsung has introduced in the sense of fashion as well as a feature that works in its best way to navigate through your gear. To recall, we have seen the same feature in Gear S2 as well.

Compatible with 22m watch bands

The Gear S3 comes with couple of bands that are well designed and feel premium. It also uses 22mm strap compatibility unlike competing smart watches, which usually offer 18 mm compatibility. It also allows you to purchase additional bands matching your style and need.

High quality display

It has 1.3 inches Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 360 x 360p. The screen is bright and have sharp and vibrant colors along with details. On the top, it has always on display feature, which saves a lot of battery when you are not using the watch. Wide variety of watch faces have always been a charm of Samsung Gear watches.

Improved Battery and Additional sensor

It comes with non-removable 380 mAh battery which is a decent number for a smartwatch. Samsung claims up to 2 days of battery backup while using all its functionalities.

In addition to better battery life it also has a wide range of sensors including altimeter, barometer, accelerometer, GPS, and optical heart rate monitor.

IP68 rating

Samsung Gear S3 has IP68 certification that means it is dust proof and can resist water over 1.5 meter for 30 minutes. We must note that the competing smartwatches come with IP67 certification till now.

Two things that we didn’t like in Samsung Gear S3

Size and weight

It measures 49 x 46 x 12.9 mm, which makes it a bigger watch than the others. The size is big and has a screen to body ratio of 48.1%  The ratio makes the bezels look thicker and priority wise, many users prefer thinner bezel.

There are two variants of this watch coming with stainless steel body having different weight. Samsung Gear S3 Frontier weighs 63 gm and Samsung Gear S3 Classic weighs 59 gm, which in both the cases, is pretty heavier than the smart watches we have seen so far.

Limited Applications

You may find limited apps on this watch as this doesn’t work on what Google offers. Samsung owned Tizen here, restricts the watch to download third-party apps in some cases. However, you might see some user prospective applications installed already.

Samsung Gear S3 looks like a total package for someone who can compromise with limited apps with big size and heavy weight. Keeping aside the two cons, Gear S3 looks great in all the other aspects. A good watch to carry in any way, rotating bezel, good battery life and killer design; Samsung Gear S3 really deserves to be called as a good buy.
