DxO Mark, a global leader in smartphone camera benchmarking has released the camera scores of OnePlus 5. OnePlus had talked about working with DxO during the launch of the smartphone last month. At 87, it is a very good score for a smartphone camera but is less than scores of HTC U11, Samsung Galaxy S8, and Google Pixel.
OnePlus 5 was marketed around its dual camera setup and OnePlus had partnered with DxO Labs to finetune their camera performance. The highest scorer on the DxO Mark is HTC U11 with a score of 90. The second and third highest scorers were Google Pixel (89) and Samsung Galaxy S8 (88).

Outdoors in Natural light conditions, DxO Mark has appreciated the OnePlus 5 for its color rendering and detail retention. The weaknesses spotted were an occasional blurring of background when HDR is toggled on. Slight color shading is also spotted on the OnePlus 5’s images.
Coming to Indoors, low light performance, the camera has performed fairly well and close to the high-end Samsung Galaxy 8 and Google Pixel. DxO mark again appreciated the Detail Preservation and Color Rendering by the OnePlus 5’s camera under low light conditions.
The review also pointed at the camera capturing ‘Inconsistent’ and sometimes ‘Blurry’ handheld shots. The White Balance of the OnePlus is good in general conditions but a little pinkish under tungsten light.
OnePlus 5 Camera Specifications
The OnePlus 5 has a Dual camera setup that uses two Sony-made sensors with 1.6x optical zoom and lossless digital zoom.
The module features two lenses, primary is a 16MP one with 24mm focal length and f/1.7 aperture and the second one is a 20MP telephoto lens with 36mm focal length and f/2.6 aperture. The dual camera setup is accompanied by a dual tone dual LED flash. Phase Detection Autofocus, EIS (gyro), 4K recording at 30FPS, 1080p recording at 60FPS and 720p recording at 120FPS round off the camera features.
Conclusion
OnePlus has used a dual camera setup for the first time via the OnePlus 5. 87 is a great score for a smartphone camera and does not mean that the performance is lower than any flagship device. In fact, OnePlus 5’s camera has beaten the camera performance of iPhone 7 in DxO benchmarks.
